Only 2% qualified in CTET 2014

CTET 2014 has recorded a pass percentage of only 2% putting a question mark on  the country’s position in having quality teachers.

CTET 2014, which was conducted in Februray by CBSE, has seen only 13,428 candidates qualifying the written test successfully, out of  a total of 7.50 lakh School teacher aspirants in total who appeared in the exam. However, 8.26 lakh aspirants made the registration for the test but many did not turn up.

Out of 7.50 lakhs aspirants, 13,428 candidates only could manage to clear either Paper I or II or both. In CTET 2014, to pass in Paper-I is compulsory for those who aim to teach classes 1 to 5 while Paper-II is meant to be cleared by those want to teach classes 6 to 8.

Those aspirants, who aim to attain certification to be eligible to teach any classes from 1 to 8, are required to pass both paper I and II. These papers consists objective type questions to test the examinee’s knowledge of English, mathematics and environmental science.

However , the result of CTET 2014 as compared to CTET 2013 reveals a slight improvement as 99% of the candidates failed to pass CTET 2013.

CTET started in 2011 by the HRD ministry with an aim to better the quality of teaching in schools after the enactment of the Right to Education Act is now mandatory to be cleared for anyone to enter a school teaching job to teach in classes I to VIII in any central government school.  The candidates with possessing B. Ed graduation degree are only eligible to apply.
