MSW or Master of Social Work is a Post-Graduate Social Work program. Social Work is both a professional and academic discipline whose area of study is intended for improving the quality of life of an individual, group, and or community belonging to a weaker section. The duration of a Master's in Social Work is two years, usually comprising 4 semesters; these may vary depending upon the institute providing it.

The Master of Social Work program is available via remote learning, correspondence, or part-time study. A correspondence MSW program provides less practical instruction than a classroom program. The primary languages of instruction are English and Hindi. Certain institutes offer it as an MASW, which stands for Master of Arts in Social Work. Few colleges provide a five-year integrated social work program that leads to BSW (three years) and MSW (two years) degrees. Family and Child Welfare, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Industrial Relations, Personnel Management, and Community Development are all options for specialization in the Master's Degree course program. Depending on the circumstances, MSW final-year students are often offered two specialty options each year.

The master's degree program in Social Work is designed to train persons who work in the Development and Welfare sectors or who want to work in them. A Master of Social Work degree qualifies a candidate to work as a Social Worker in a variety of positions. Interventions are carried out by social workers through research, policy, community organization, direct practice, and training.
