B.A. English Literature and Theatre Studies or Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Theatre Studies is a three year graduate programme. The English and Theatre Studies degree investigates the history and contemporary condition of drama within the context of a wide-ranging English Literature programme. You will focus on the role of the writer in the theatre – as dramatist and as critic – and on theatre’s own role in society. You will be able to choose from a wide range of options in Theatre Studies. Theatre Studies covers a range of subjects including playwriting, television drama, contemporary dance and physical theatre, arts administration, and media in performance; English Literature covers a range of poetry, drama, fiction and other prose. He course will focus on language, text and performance, providing you with opportunities to engage with a wide range of texts, films, videos and live performances. Your personal development will be grounded in a theoretical framework, but your learning will be predominantly practice-led with regular workshops to enhance your acting and performance skills. You will also be involved with the making of performances, taking on responsibilities as a director, deviser and writer at different stages throughout the course.
