Environmental Engineering is a field of Engineering which utilises the knowledge of science and engineering principles to safeguard and improve the environment (air, water, and/or land resources). Environmental Engineering in India is of great significance as there is a great need to provide healthy water, air, and land for habitation of both Humans and for other organisms. With increased use of chemicals in industry and agricultural, the environment has become severely polluted. Earlier water treatment, supply of potable water, disposal of human excreta, design of septic tanks, sewerage systems used to be the only focus of environmental engineering. But now the field has widened considerably including air pollution, nuclear pollution, oil pollution, noise pollution, chemical contamination etc. A Professional in this field is known as Environmental Engineer. They are concerned with local and worldwide environmental issues. They study and attempt to minimize the effects of acid rain, global warming, automobile emissions, and ozone depletion. They are also are involved in the protection of wildlife.

    Job Perspectives

Today, there is a great deal of emphasis on preventing problems rather than controlling those that already exist and also safeguard public health. This has increased the demand for environmental engineers. Environment Engineers get employed in private as well as government agencies and organizations and NGOs. Sometimes they might be marketing and installing pollution control machinery / technology. They also work as researchers, designers, planners, operators of pollution control facilities, professors, government regulatory agency officials, managers of programs, society workers etc. environmental engineering jobs in India are available in government sector of all types (federal, state and local), or all types of major corporations and private businesses. They are employed in wide range of industries like utilities, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing companies. And many other businesses need specialists and engineers to meet environmental protection requirements.
