M.Sc. (Chemistry)
Master of Science in Chemistry
| Duration: | 2 Years |
| Level: | Post Graduation |
| Type: | Degree |
| Eligibility: | Graduation |
M.Sc. Chemistry or Master of Science in Chemistry is a postgraduate Chemistry course. Chemistry is the science of matter and the changes it undergoes. The science of matter is also addressed by physics, but while physics takes a more general and fundamental approach, chemistry is more specialized, being concerned with the composition, behaviour, structure, and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions. The Master of Science degree in Chemistry is offered on a part-time basis as well. The minimum duration is two years and that of maximum is four years. M.Sc. Chemistry syllabus is divided into four semesters and the nature of the course career orienting in nature that opens a lot of career scopes for them after its completion.
M.Sc. Chemistry Eligibility
- B.Sc. (3 yrs) Degree after 10+2 with Major / Honours in Chemistry
- B.Sc. General / Pass degree with Chemistry as one of the three main subjects with equal weight-age.
- At least 50 per cent Marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade for General candidates and 45 per cent Marks or an equivalent grade for SC / ST candidates

- Those who are willing to go for teaching fields at higher degree level both in private and government institutions.
- Those who want to go for further research work after Master's degree also can go for the course.
- They must have analytical and problem-solving such as examining and interpreting results and making evaluations based on limited information.
- One should be good enough with time management and organisation which play a great in planning and executing experiments, undertaking individual and team project work and completing your dissertation.
- They should also have written and oral communication skills like sharing your research findings via written reports and oral presentations to different audiences, assimilating scientific theories and arguments for discussion and debate.
How is M.Sc. Chemistry Course Beneficial?
- The degree course gives a solid base for higher degree programs in respective subjects, e.g. M.Phil. & Ph.D. for research work.
- They can have jobs in the following areas such as the food and drink industry; utilities and energy research; health and medical organisations.
- Candidates have also the options of joining scientific research organisations and agencies.
- They can become teacher at school level after it and after having passed NET exam they can go for permanent jobs in colleges and universities.
- Students having interest in M.Sc. in Chemistry and have interest in lab activities, can handle experiments are most suitable for this course.
