M.Sc. (Hydrology)
Master of Science in Hydrology
| Duration: | 2 Years |
| Level: | Post Graduation |
| Type: | Degree |
| Eligibility: | Graduation |
M.Sc. Hydrology or Master of Science in Hydrology is a postgraduate Bioscience course. Hydrology is an earth science concerned with assessment of the natural distribution of water in time and space and with evaluating the impact of man-made changes on the distribution and quality of this water. Course deals with surface and groundwater, addressing both water quantity and quality, learning to understand human influences on the hydrological system, and receive tools, such as modelling, for the proper integration of hydrological knowledge and analysis in water resources planning and management. It is career orienting in nature that opens many jobs after its successful passing in various fields.
M.Sc. Hydrology Eligibility
- Bachelors Degree in Science (B.Sc. Chemistry) with minimum 55% marks with Polymer Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry / Petro Chemicals / Environment & Water Management as the main subject and Mathematics and Physics / Computer Science, as subsidiaries with 55% marks in the main subject.
- There are some reputed colleges and institutes which conduct entrance examination to get admission to their M.Sc. Degree course.

M.Sc. Hydrology College
M.Sc. Hydrology Course Suitability
- Those who have an interest and want to deal with groundwater dynamics, exploration, drilling and aquifer tests, sustainable allocation of groundwater, contamination, and computer modelling are good match for it.
- They should have good oral and written communication skills because they have to write technical reports and communicate it to developers or engineers.
- Since they have to work as a team with other scientists, engineers and technicians and so they must have good interpersonal skills.
- Other essential skills are computer knowledge, logical, analytical and problem solving skills and decision making skills.
How is M.Sc. Hydrology Course Beneficial?
- The Master degree course is beneficial for understanding of theories and concepts in surface and subsurface hydrology, the physical, chemical and biological interactions between the hydrosphere, the lithosphere, the biosphere and the atmosphere.
- The Master degree course is beneficial as it provides good base for further studies such as M.Phil. and Ph.D. for research work.
- They can also become teacher in schools on private basis and after having certain degrees (such as B.Ed. & NET) they can become permanent teacher/ lecturer.
- They can also work as consultants who are hired by other companies or government agencies to provide expertise in protecting soil and groundwater from contamination and in cleanup after it has become contaminated.
