M.Sc. stands for Master of Science. It is a Postgraduate Academic Master Degree Course whose mainstay is the study of Science. Science is the study of the physical and natural world using theoretical models and data from experiments or observation. Science is a broad field and there are various branches in which one can gain mastery. Also offered as M.S. (Master of Science), in some institutes, the course is of 2 or more year’s duration with 2 or more Semesters depending upon the subject to master and the Institute providing it. The program is available in various subjects and provides specialised education. Masters Degree in Science is provided all over India in almost all the Universities. M.S.c. courses are also available in Integrated Form whose duration is mostly 5 years. Example - Integrated M.Sc. programme Basic Sciences (biology, chemistry, mathematics or physics) offered by NISER. Integrated M.Sc. courses provide additional knowledge of related and or interdisciplinary field so that there is no need or to do 2 separate courses. Distance Learning M.Sc. courses are also available through various Distance Education Institutes as well.
Eligibility
A candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science in order to pursue Master of Science Program. The percentage requirement varies from institute to institute and from discipline to discipline. The cut off percentage for admissions to the various M.S. degree courses varies depending on the Institute. Some institutes also conduct entrance test for admission in their institutes.
