Social Science is a discipline which comprises academic disciplines concerned with the study of the social life of human groups and individuals. Social Sciences includes a variety of disciplines like - anthropology, communication studies, economics, human geography, history, political science, psychology and sociology. Universities throughout the world consider the study of the social sciences as vital for the future of society, and most cater for many degrees in the multiplicity of social science fields.

Study of Social Sciences is important for a proper understanding of social reality. It is an inter-disciplinary approach to the study of social sciences. The extent of this inter-disciplinary element varies from institute to institute and also depending upon the nature of the discipline concerned, conceptual framework of teaching and research programmes of different centres. Not all institutions recognize some fields included in it as social sciences or as being only social scientific. Some disciplines have characteristics of both the humanities, social and natural sciences: for example some subfields of anthropology, such as biological anthropology, are closely related to the natural sciences whereas archaeology and linguistics are social sciences, while cultural anthropology is very much linked with the humanities.
