B.P.Ed. Bachelor of Physical Education

Physical Education is a course or training in the development of and care for the human body. Bachelor of Physical Education is an Undergraduate Academic Degree awarded for a course or program in the field of Physical Education. It is popularly known as B.P.Ed. or B.P.E. which is an abbreviated form of the Bachelor of Physical Education Degree. Physical Education Degree course consists of theory paper and practicals. All India Council of Physical Education is an Apex body of Physical Education constituted as per the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) of Indian Parliament to look after the Physical Education programmes in the country.

There are 2 Levels at which Bachelor of Physical Education Degree is offered:

B.P.Ed. - 3-4 year Course

B.P.Ed. whose duration is 3-4 years requires a candidate have passed +2 from a recognised board in any stream. Those who have taken physical education in 10+2 are more preferred.

Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years on the first day of July of the year of admission to the Course.

The reserved candidates (SC/ST) will be given age relaxation as per Institute rules.

Admission Tests include:

i) Physical Fitness Test - The Test may comprise comprise Pull-ups (Boys) / Flexed-arm Hang (Girls), Flexed-leg Sit-ups for one minute, Shuttle Run (30ft X 4), Standing Broad Jump, 50-Yard Dash and or 600- Yard Run. Those who fail to secure 50% of the composite score of 60 points of the test battery shall not be eligible for further testing.

ii) Academic Test - It is a test in General Knowledge and English of 50 marks. Candidates who secure less than 40% marks are not be eligible for further testing.

iii) Game/Sport Playing Ability Test - It is of 50 mark. Each candidate is required to opt one game/sport of his/her choice for assessment, out of the games/sports included in the schedule of I.O.A or Association of Indian Universities, Sports Division. However, the College reserves the right to delete any game/sport from the list on administrative considerations. Candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks in this test.

The merit for admission shall be reckoned on the basis of total marks obtained by a candidate in tests (ii) and (iii) subject to a minimum of 50% of the combined total (100 marks).

There are various Physical Education Colleges in India. Bachelor of Physical Education is also available through Distance Learning Degree Programs.

B.P.Ed. - 1 year course

B.P.Ed. whose duration is 1 years requires a candidate to be graduate with at least 50% marks in aggregate along with sports participation. The participation must be within last three years of admission year.

Maximum age should not be more than 25 years.

Admissions are made through an Entrance Examination Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET).

Both men and women are eligible for admission to B.P.Ed degree course. However, married women are not be eligible for admission in most of the Institutes.

The course syllabus includes Intensive Practice Teaching in schools.

B.P.Ed. - 1 year course Subjects

Principles of Physical Education & Educational Psychology.

Anatomy, Physiology and Health Education.

Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology.

Practice Teaching.

Practical Work.

Physical Education Courses is meant especially for sports persons or those who have a passion for sports and related activities. Non sports person need to be energetic, enthusiastic and physically fit. All professionals in this field must be absolutely committed to the profession and the game.

Those who have completed B.P.Ed can go for physical education major education which can be Masters in Physical Education, Post Graduate Diploma In Health And Fitness Management (PGDHFM) or M.Phil.

Another benefit of this degree is that it's keeps one healthy and fit as it is a pre requirement, to pursue this degree.

Bachelor of Physical Education Jobs

Physical Education Degree enables a person to be employed in government sector enterprises or with the private sector that they represent in the sporting event/game in various tournaments and matches. The Government recruits meritorious sports persons directly to Group 'C' and 'D' posts if they fulfil the requisite educational qualifications. Nationalised banks, public sector undertakings and some private groups also recruit outstanding sports persons.
