GMAT - Graduate Management Admission Test

GMAT 2013 - Graduate Management Admission test acronym as GMAT is conducted by the US-based Pearson VUE under the direction of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), an organization of graduate business schools worldwide. It is a Standardized test that measures verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills of the young aspirants to help the graduate schools of business assess the potential of applicants for advanced study in business and management institutes.

Nearly 900 management institutes all over the world (most of them in the US) require GMAT scores from each applicant. The GMAT tests the fundamental skills - Reasoning and Comprehension included - and does not require any subject-specific theoretical study.

GMAT Exam Eligibility

Anyone and everyone are eligible for taking the GMAT irrespective of age or qualification.

GMAT Syllabus

The test has three distinct sections:

1. Analytical Writing Ability (AWA)

1. Analysis of an Argument

2. Integrated Reasoning

1. Graphic interpretation
2. Multiple-source reasoning
3. Table analysis and
4. Two-part analysis.

3. Quantitative: The Quantitative section has two types of questions:

1. Problem Solving and
2. Data Sufficiency mingled throughout the section.

4. Verbal:-The Verbal Section has three types of questions:-

1. Sentence Correction
2. Critical Reasoning and
3. Reading Comprehension

GMAT Pattern

There are a total of 78 questions, 37 in Quantitative and 41 in Verbal. These have to be done in 75 minutes each. Topic has to be written in 30 minutes. The new section -Integrated Reasoning- will consists of 12 questions to be done within 30 minutes. It has been introduced by removing an essay from the analytical writing assessment section. Therefore the score and timings of the exam (3 hours, 30 minutes) will remain same. However changes can also made in the total number of questions and the time duration.

An on-screen calculator will be provided to candidates for the fourth format named Two-part analysis.


GMAT  Exam Dates

GMAT Test Dates are not fixed. This exam is held all around the year, in fact one can choose his own date and time for taking the exam as it is a totally online test i.e GMAT Online Test. September to December is the high season for GMAT, so in case you intend to take the test during this period, you need to register very early (say 90 days in advance) to get a date of your choice. Otherwise, registering at least 15 days in advance is mandatory.

GMAT Exam Validity

The test scores are valid for five years for most of the university. But it is always prudent to have scores not more than 2 years old.

GMAT Exam Fee

The fee to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is US$250 worldwide. You will incur taxes when you schedule an exam in certain countries.
