SCRA Exam 2014 - The Special Class Railway Apprentice  Exam acronym as SCRA  Exam  is taken by UPSC for about ten seats to induct candidates for special Mechanical Engineering degree course for providing Indian Railways the top-ranking officers. SCRA Exam is  taken by as many as 1 to 1.5 lakh candidates every year to join railways as engineers. The selected candidates undergo a four-year rigorous training programme in Mechanical Engineering, for which the Institute has a Memorandum of Understanding with BIT, Mesra, Ranchi.

After successful completion of four years of training, the candidates join as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) Officers in Indian Railways to face a challenging and satisfying career. The apprentices get a stipend in the scale of Rs.4000-4400 with Dearness Allowance, making the final emoluments upto Rs.7400, apart from medical benefits, privilege passes and PTOs.

Important: SCRA's get a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering after successful completion of four years of training. This degree is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education.

SCRA Exam Eligibility

Educational Qualification:

  1. A candidate appearing for Special Class Railway Apprentice Exam must have passed in the first or second division, the Intermediate or an equivalent Examination of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

    Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects may also apply, or

  2. Candidate must have passed in the first or second division, the Higher Secondary (12 years) Examination under 10 plus 2 pattern of School Education with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Age:

The candidates aspiring for the SCRA examination must have attained 17 years of age and must not have completed 21 years on 1st August of the year of examination.

SCRA Exam Syllabus

UPSC SCRA written exam consists of question from subjects given below:-

  1. Mathematics
  2. Physics
  3. Chemistry
  4. English Language
  5. General Knowledge and
  6. Psychological Test (Mental Ability).

Note: The standard of syllabus is that of Class XII (CBSE equivalent).

SCRA Exam Pattern

SCRA exam consists of two parts:

Part I

Written examination carrying a maximum of 600 marks in the subjects as shown below.

Part II

Personality Test carrying a maximum of 200 marks in respect of only those candidates who are declared qualified on the results of written examination

The selected candidates are called for an interview, which is followed by a medical examination.

SCRA Exam is normally held in the month of January.

Interesed candidates can apply only Online for SCRA 2014. 

UPSC SCRA Exam Fee

The candidates who wish to apply for Railway SCRA 2014 Entrance Exam have to pay a fees of Rs.100 to be deposited in any of the SBI branch or can pay online using net banking of SBI or through any Visa/Master Credit or Debit Card.
