About A.I.C.A.R. Business School

AICAR (Asian Institute of Communication And Research) Business School was established in the year 2002 by the founder-Chairman of Chaitra Leo Burnett, Mr. Walter Saldanha. AICAR Business School was set up by a group of eminent corporate citizens, who had dedicated themselves to establish a world class, residential centre of learning that would establish unparalleled standards of management and communication practice. AICAR is a beautifully landscaped 30-acre campus with a built-up area of over 1.25 lac sq. ft. at Neral, Maharashtra, located at the foothills of Matheran, beside the Ulhas River. AICAR offers a two-year full-time residential PGDM programme approved by the All India Council of Technical Education, New Delhi. The course includes specializations in the following areas: Communications, Marketing, Financial Services and Human Resource Management. The business school is also affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education Board, Government of Maharashtra. AICAR also offers various Management Development Programmes (MDPs) which are both general and industry specific. The Management Development Programmes (MDPs) are specially designed for working executives. In 2007 the institute entered into a strategic alliance with Aptech Limited, a global retail & corporate training solutions provider headquartered in Mumbai. The curricular and co-curricular activities at AICAR groom the learners through varied aspects of IQ, EQ, and SQ. ‘Learning-by-doing’ pedagogy seamlessly combines live projects, Community Services, VCD-based learning, debates, learning from Gurus (not management alone) with theoretical inputs on management subjects. Learners at AICAR Business School co-own the responsibility for organizing various events and competition that gives them hands–on experience in managing people and material.

Location - Situated about 1.5 kms from the Neral Railway Station and approximately 1.5 hours by train or car from Mumbai, it has easy access to the Metropolis and Pune.

Facilities

Classrooms - Classrooms are large, well designed acoustically and air-conditioned. They are permanently equipped with a projector and sound system. All faculty are provided wireless collar mics if they require it.

Hostel - AICAR's 200-bed modern hostel, has separate residences for male and female students. 24 fully air-conditioned rooms with attached bathrooms, for single occupancy for executives attending MDPs is available on campus as well.

Library - A 4000 sq. ft. air-conditioned library with the latest copies (and multiple) Business magazines, Journals, Management Books and tons of other interesting reference stuff that tomorrow's managers require  and there's plenty of well laid out space for reading in peace and quiet.

Computer Lab - To craft the tech savvy business professionals of tomorrow, AICAR has a state-of-art Wi-Fi Campus and air-conditioned computer laboratory 24 hour Internet access. The students can use their laptops anywhere within the college campus, including their Hostel rooms which are all WiFi enabled. The AICAR campus has a fully automated diesel generator backup system for fail-safe continuous power supply.

Integrated Communication Agency - A first in the history of business schools: AICAR has an integrated communication agency as part of its management programme. AICAR students work on advertising, direct marketing and Public Relations campaigns for a number of clients – offering strategic planning to creative services; from production to implementation of campaigns. The aim of the agency is two-fold: to create breakthrough communication for a small set of brands and clients and simultaneously to help students put into practice what they learn in class as part of their post-graduation management programme.

Entrepreneurship Cell - The Bhukanwala Centre for Entrepreneurship Development was formed to develop and nurture entrepreneurship qualities among the students of AICAR Business School. The Entrepreneurship Cell helps the students to create and formulate their own business plan and to study the various aspects of business.

Rupeeance - It is the Centre for Banking, Finance and Insurance (CBFI). It is an initiative of finance students of AICAR Business School. CBFI organizes an intra-collegiate event called “AIFIN”. AIFIN is one-day event where in students from AICAR are required to present a report and presentation on any topic of their interest in finance. Based on the report the students are short listed for the presentation and they are evaluated by finance professionals from the industry on the event day. The students are also required to conduct research work and prepare projects under CBFI. For instance last year the students conducted a survey across Mumbai on financial inclusion and collected around 100 samples from the low income group. The objective of the research was to understand the accessibility of financial instruments to low-income group. The report and the analysis of the survey where presented to Mr. Tony Fernandes Regional Head for Credit Programmes, CORDAID Microfinance, Netherlands.

Transportation - Neral Station is only 1.5 kms away from AICAR. There is constant and adequate public transportation available and AICAR provides a campus bus service at regular intervals to and from its campus  and Neral station.

Stores - The AICAR convenience store carrys a line of snacks, soft drinks and other stuff essential to make on campus student life pleasant.

Healthcare - The Campus provides very dependable health care services. AICAR has tied up with the Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital at Patalganga for all its medical requirements.

Placement - The institute receives an overwhelming response from the Industry for Campus placement for all the batches and all students were placed with well known organizations. Some of the companies that recruit from AICAR are ABN Amro, Centurion Bank, NDTV, Saipack Printing House etc.

Forum - The institute forum can be used by any AICAR student who has registered and is logged in. One is free to create any thread of his desire, post questions, answer questions all in good faith.

AICAR Projects - Each year students are given projects. The students are divided into multiple groups of approximately eight to ten students. They document and analyse the business model. In the process of analysis, they try and uncover various business processes that are working inefficiently and document solutions.

Canteen - AICAR has a huge well laid out, multi cuisine cafeteria that caters to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians and a top-of-the line modern kitchen.

Games - The AICAR Campus provides both indoor / outdoor games facilities along with a gymnasium and a swimming pool.

Hiking - The Hills of Matheran, that surround AICAR provide natural hiking tracks for the more adventurous.

AICUMEN - It is an intra-collegiate business quiz. The event is organized by the students of AICAR Business School.

AICAM - It is AICAR’s annual mobile film festival. The students are required to prepare Ads for two categories, Social Message ADS and Commercial Ads.

AI’KAAN - It is AICAR’s Radio AD festival. The students are required to prepare radio Ads or jingles for two categories, Social Message ADS and Commercial Ads.

Culturals - The Culturals are organized by the Junior Batch for the Senior Batch at AICAR.

AICAR Rating - It was rated Category 'A' by Business India - INDIA's Best B-School survey - 2009.

Competition Success Review - GS RDC ranks AICAR Business School, 23rd amongst all Management Institutes in Maharashtra and 94th all over India.

Prestigious Awards - AICAR won two prestigious awards:

2. The Innovation in Teaching Methodology award at the World HRD Congress.

Janashree Bima - Students of Insurance and Financial Services created history when they popularised and sold the Janashree Bima (group insurance) scheme among 200 rural households in Raigad district. The scheme was lunched by the Prime Minister of India to provide insurance to people below the poverty line. This is probably the first such experience of its kind in the world of business schools. The event was widely reported by the media and was highly commended by LIC's Chairman Mr. S. B. Mathur.

Switch Channel - AICAR Business School has launched Switch, India's first campus channel. Conceived and nurtured by Anand Kurian, Switch features news and discussions, and covers sports and entertainment as well. The channel is run by a board of directors, consisting entirely of students of the school. Switch was inaugurated by the Chairman of Cadbury, Mr. C. Y. Pal; he described it as ‘an example of the power of an innovative idea’.

Jazzvertising - AICAR’s “Jazzvertising” Workshop was recently exported to srilanka .It was held in Colombo as Launching pad for Bates Asia in the island. The workshop was conducted like a jam session over two days by Ivan Arthur, Trustee and Dean Communication, AICAR Business School, Prabhakar Mundkur, Director, Business Development, J Walter Thompson and Rajiv Raja, Executive Creative Director, Bates India All three are Musicians and acknowledged professionals in Advertising.
