About Indo-Swiss Training Centre - ISTC

Indo Swiss Training Centre (ISTC) is a reputed training centre of Technical Training in Chandigarh. It is being run under the aegis of Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO), Chandigarh, a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. CSIR is a premier national laboratory dedicated to research, design and development of scientific and industrial instruments. ISTC was established in the year 1963 in collaboration with the Swiss Foundation for Technical Assistance, Switzerland. ISTC was formally inaugurated on 18 the December 1963 by the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Indo Swiss training centre has been awarded ISO 9002 certification by SQTC during 2001.

The centre provides excellent quality of training and a rigid system of performance evaluation has been devised to maintain the quality of training. All the trainees work on machines individually and are trained to execute industrial jobs and face real life work environment. Full time training similar to a Shift in industry prepares trainees for a real- life work environment. Stress is also laid on the development of attitude such as punctuality, cleanliness, housekeeping, obedience, prior in labour, commitment etc. Behaviour and discipline of trainee are closely monitored and recorded.

Indo Swiss Training Centre, Chandigarh also provides training for:

M. Tech.

  • It is a 2-year programme offered jointly by BESU, Shibpur and three CSIR Labs viz. CMERI Durgapur CSIO Chandigarh & CEERI Pilani, and structured around their core strengths
  • Students will undergo the classes of first semester at BESU
  • During the second semester, all the students attend classes sequentially in the three institutes viz. CMERI, CEERI and CSIO
  • During the third & fourth semesters, the students are attached to different institutes (of their choice) where they mainly devote to their dissertation work besides doing an elective course
  • Final degree to the candidates will be awarded by BESU

ISTC, Chandigarh Facilities

Hostel Facilities - Hostel Accommodation within the campus is optional and is available separately for male and female trainees on First cum First Serve basis. The training centre will provide all boarding and mess facilities. For guidance of hostlers, a list of items required will be sent along with their admission information. These items must be brought while reporting to the hostel warden to ensure a decent standard of living.

Hostel Facilities

  • Two/three trainees share a room and each trainee is provided with a cot (6' x 3'), a reading table, a chair and a cupboard
  • There is a facility of hot and cold water
  • There is a mess where hostlers have their food which is well maintained by hostlers themselves. The hostel mess is managed on co-operative basis by a Mess Committee consisting of representatives of the hostel inmates. The Mess Committee works under the guidance of Hostel Warden
  • There is a provision of playground where hostlers can play various sports like football, cricket and basketball etc.
  • There is a community centre in this CSIO premises which provide free medical facility to the hostellers

Design Office – The centre has a designing section in Die & Mould building where trainees are introduced to designing software’s like Auto CAD, Pro E, CATIA etc.

Computer Laboratory - The Computer Laboratory is fully air-conditioned and well furnished. It provides various facilities, like full network connectivity to access file, print and internet and training on various software’s amongst others.

Conference Room – It is centrally located within the College and is air-conditioned, with natural light. It has seating for 50 guests and offers state-of-the-art presentation and conferencing technologies including an LCD projector and an instructor's console with connections for a laptop. A wireless microphone is also available for checkout in the Learning Technology Centre.
