The college offers diverse programmes at undergraduate level in the areas of Humanities, Science, Commerce and Computers; and Post Graduation in English, Hindi, Music, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information & Network Security, Commerce, Mathematics, Economics and Physics. In addition, the college offers Honours in Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Political Science, History, Psychology, English, Hindi and Punjabi. With the world of work in mind the college has blended these conventional courses with career oriented Diploma courses in Counseling, Computers, Textile Designing and Fashion Designing. Professional Courses like B.Sc. in Bio-Technology and Honours School in English are among its strengths. The college, which is located in a beautiful 27 acre campus far away from the madding city crowds of Jalandhar, has approximately 2500 students, over 120 faculty, administrative and support staff. The peaceful environment of the college houses an impressive infrastructure consisting of Ultra Modern Science Labs, State-of-the Art Computer Labs, Conference Room with Audio-Visual Aids, Fully Automated Library, Functional Language Lab, Health Club and a Hostel with a fully Mechanised Kitchen.

K.M.V. with its selfless services towards empowering women continues to lead from the front. It is the only institution from North India to have been selected by the Ministry of HRD for the production of documentary films on leading institutions of women education in India. Lauding the Vidyalaya’s effort in imparting quality education, the chairperson of NAAC strongly recommended the elevation of the college to the status of deemed University. Autonomous Status

Under Autonomous status, KMV has taken a giant leap by placing itself into a higher league of colleges that enjoy the honour of uplifting academic standards towards excellence by developing new age innovative programmes, value-added courses, developing curriculum and bringing about educational reforms through conduct of examinations, evaluation and declaration of results. The college has earned this functional status only after having been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India (NAAC) with a higher grade for three times, under which degrees will continue to be awarded by the parent university, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Detailed Marks Certificates containing marks of students in various subjects will be awarded by the college.

Hostel

Founded in I886, KMV boarding house, ‘Kanya Ashram’, as it was popularly called, is situated within the precincts of the college. The hostel building consists of four hostel wings- SavitriBhawan, Rai Bahadur Badri Das Hostel, SaraswatiBhawan and New Hostel. Located in lush green and eco-friendly surroundings, the hostel has a provision of accommodation for about 800 girl students.

Aiming at all-round personality development, our mission is to develop right skills, positive attitude, leadership qualities along with a sense of discipline, dedication to duty and commitment in every student. In pursuit of excellence in all spheres of human activity, hostel life provides the boarders umpteen opportunities to enjoy not only a sense of togetherness but to become awakened and empowered individuals so that they may actively respond to the momentous issues of society and socio- political environment of the world. Hostel Life

The college boarding house, situated within the precincts of the college, consists of four hostel wings-‘Savitri

Bhavan’, ’Rai Bahadur Badri Das Hostel’, ’Sarasvati Bhavan’ and ‘New Hostel’. Hostel life in KMV invites the boarders to enjoy their sojourn in a home away from home in the most fruitful and truly memorable way. Personal attention and care is given to the students by the Principal and the staff with frequent visits to the hostel. A spacious dining hall with a modern kitchen equipped with the latest gadgets has an absolutely hygienic environment. The food served is purely vegetarian, tasty, nutritious and of exceptional quality. Elaborate arrangements have been made in the hostel to provide academically conducive, safe & secure and above all, economically affordable accommodation with homely ambience.

Accommodation

Accommodation- A Cradle of Intellect, Creativity, Culture and Sports

Reputed for its intellectual vigour and homely ambiance, KMV hostel offers elaborate arrangements to provide academically conducive, economically affordable accommodation with closely monitored/ guarded security system. Furnished with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the Institution provides all modern amenities to the boarders such as water coolers, solar systems, T.V, LCD Projector, newspapers. Spacious and airy rooms are fitted with a ceiling fan and a tube light each. In order to ensure pure, uncontaminated and uninterrupted water supply, filters and purifiers have been installed. The whitewashing of rooms and cleaning of lavatories is a regular feature to maintain proper cleanliness and hygienic conditions. Sprawling playgrounds within the campus for the daily practice of our budding sports stars is another feature in our endeavor to facilitate life in the hostel. Personal attention and care is given by the Principal and the staff with frequent visits to the hostel to ensure an atmosphere of mutual adjustability and emotional security conducive for the personality development of the resident scholars.

To foster moral values and a sense of respect for our culture among the boarders, prayer meetings are held in the evenings. Havan is also performed in Yagyashala every Sunday besides other important festive days.

An association of boarders offers a host of opportunities to the inmates to explore and chisel their latent talents in co-curricular activities through various cultural programmes and competitions organised from time to time. All major festivals and annual functions like Golden Night and Silver Night are celebrated with gusto. One day excursions are an all-time favourite feature with the residents. As an institution, we at KMV are fully conscious of our role and responsibility in guiding our youth and channelizing their bubbling energies in positive direction. We are committed to provide an invigorating ambience of academic fiesta and cultural ethos with emotional warmth and physical comfort to our young scholars. The desired end, however, without the co-operation of parents and guardians is not possible to achieve. Therefore parents are requested to keep in touch with the authorities – the Principal and the Hostel Warden and keep themselves informed of the conduct and progress of their wards in the college as well as in the hostel.

Facilities

Mess

Hygienic mess with a spacious dining hall, attached with a modern kitchen equipped with the latest gadgets, has an absolutely healthy environment. The food served is tasty nourishing, balanced, and purely vegetarian. Rations and vegetables used are of exceptional quality. To maintain proper quality and hygienic conditions, food is inspected daily by the hostel authorities. Regular checks of water and kitchen hygiene are done personally by the Principal.

Health Care

Physical well-being and healthcare of the boarders are one of the primary concerns of the authorities. Special medical facilities are provided to the students at all hours through a resident nurse. In case of a major ailment, the resident is referred to a specialist at Janta Hospital (situated opposite the college), and parents are informed accordingly. A provision has been made for a daily doctor-in-attendance from 3 .00 pm to 6.00 pm for consultation.

Other Facilities

• Special coaching classes are held for resident scholars on demand
• Students preparing for Competitive exams are allowed to go out for coaching classes only on the authority of their parents. Transport and other arrangements will be made at the individual level by the parents/guardians only.
• For- the convenience of the boarders, numerous facilities like Bookshop, Bank and Canteen are available in the premises only.
• Along with the facility of washing machines, a special arrangement of tailor and washerman has been made.
• There are three STD booths operational in the hostel to facilitate the residents between 10.00 am to 6.00 pm.

• A state-of-the-art health club fitted with various devices like top-of-the-line multi- gym, magnetic bike, motorised treadmill, jogger, twister, vibrator, massager etc. caters free of cost to the physical fitness of the boarders.
• Expert fitness guidance is provided to the boarders by a fitness trainer for two hours daily in the health club.
• Regular medical check-ups are conducted from time to time.
• Yoga camps are also organized to train the resident students in meditation and concentration to enhance their mental health and abilities.
• Special facility of a counsellor for the boarders to cope up with stress and age-related problems of the youngsters is also provided.
• Resident teachers staying in the boarding house regularly help the hostel students with their studies. Special facilities like Computer, Internet Connectivity etc. are provided to the students seeking to appear for competitive examinations.
• Students can make use of the college library late in the evening till 7.00 pm.
• A provision has been made for air-cooled/ air-conditioned rooms to beat the heat which residents can avail at the payment of extra charges on first-cum-first- served basis.
• There is a provision of special food for the students who fast on different days.
• For recreational purpose, special movie shows on LCD projectors are organized and celebration of all major festivals like Diwali, Holi, Lohri, Gurupurab etc. is held in a family-like atmosphere.
