About Gandhi Institute of Fashion and Textile - GIFT

GIFT acronym for Gandhi Institute of Fashion and Textile or more elaborately Gandhi Institute of Fashion Design and Textile Design is a private institute. It was launched on 5th October 1995 and was founded by Professor Khalid Ameer Rafique. He is also the Managing Trustee of the institute and has held various positions in the fashion education arena. The objective behind GIFT - Ahmedabad is to make education of Fashion, Textile, Jewellery Design and Home Fashion Interior available to all with no formality of background, education level or language. It is named after Mahatma Gandhi ji and works on the philosophy of sharing and imparting 100% practical knowledge to learner individually. The source of this ideology being Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekanand and Prophet Mohammad Saheb. These and the below mentioned factors make Gandhi Institute of Fashion and Textile a unique institute.

GIFT Common Learning (Foundation Programme) Features

It is a 1 year practically coordinated education programme for fresh learners.

This course provides a common learning for all four different disciplines viz. Fashion, Textile, Jewellery Design and Home Fashion Interior.

Teaching Methodology

  • Individual demonstration by GIFT Faculty based according to a learners grasp and inculcation. It provides growth, confidence and practice.
  • Using of Right or Left Hand for learning design subjects, with different design tools and machines.
  • Appropriate handling and utilization of super fine soft hair rushes viz. artist flat, round, fancy brushes and air brush for meaningful usage
  • Effort less design practice and learning through adjustment of education as per a candidates comfort and needs

Photo Water Colour 

Rendering and painting with photo water colours, worn design garments or any design concept as such sari or any ethnic wear, trouser, skirt or any floral surface etc. for future design practice

Emboss Painting 

Direct drawing of any design forms as learnt previously with epoxy and colored, rendered through air brush for future design practice, on both paper/Fabric

Stencil Painting / Printing 

  • Drawing stencil drawing from above learning and learn to mark them for stencil cutting
  • Using sharp edge cutter for stencil cutting
  • Painting through stencil with air brush for future design practice

Pencil Shading 

  • Rendering different design forms from above learning but not miniature
  • Holding pencil with varying pressure to get proper rendering

Effects 

  • How to render and from where to render on any design drawing
  • Learning to use B, 2B, 4B, and 6B Staedtler Brand different degrees (lead) pencil for rendering
  • Design drawing and which pencil degree is required for rendering design concept
  • Learning to fix pencil rendered design drawing, with air brush, to maintain rendered drawing for ever
  • Learning to give extra colour ornamental graphic effects on render design drawing with air brush
  • Learning to create fancy effects in rendering though soft degree pencil
  • Learning to create abstract texture while rendering

Fabric Painting

  • Learning to paint fabric instead paper from previous learning
  • Learning of using fabric paints for transparent painting
  • Learning of paint emboss effect with fabric bond epoxy
  • Learning to paint with colour dust
  • Learning to paint discharged effects
  • Learning to render fabric with fabric colour/dyes
  • Learning to paint fabric with vegetable dyes
  • Learning to paint and draw with air brush
