About Army Institute of Technology - AIT

Army Institute of Technology (AIT) was founded in August 1994. It was the vision of Gen B.C Joshi - PVSM, AVSM, ADC, who felt that an Institution exclusively for children of Serving and Retired Army Personnel should be established. The Institute was inaugurated by Gen S.Roy Chaudhary PVSM, ADC on 24th Feb, 1995. AIT functions under the aegis of Army Welfare Education Society (AWES). In Feb 2004 AIT acquired accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for five years and is currently in the process of reaccreditation. AIT is affiliated to University of Pune and is recognised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). It is a Residential and Self-Contained Campus in a superb, pollution free environment. A number of Indoor and Outdoor Sports Facilities exist within the Campus.

Facilities

Hostels - AIT is a fully Residential College. there are 3 Hostels within the Campus, two for boys and one for girls. There is a mix of triplet,twin sharing or single rooms in each Hostel. Each Hostel has its own TV Room and Gymnasium. The Hostels are equipped with modern amenities like Solar Heating Plant and Refrigerator and a Gymnasium. All students can have Internet Connection in their room.

Library - AIT has a well stocked Library housing 17713 Books, 5441 titles and  65 National and International Journals. The state-of-art Reading Room can accommodate 100 students at one time. A large number of reference books on variety of subjects are also available. It has a Digital section having Audio/Video CDs and CBTs. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is available on Intranet. The Library has membership to other Libraries which include British Council Library, Jaykar Library(Pune University) and A.R.A.I. Library.

Mess - Each Hostel has a Mess of its own. Menu is full of variety catering to tastes of all regions. The kitchen and dinning hall are fully equipped with modern gadgets/ appliances. Messing is compulsory except on holidays/weekends.

Grant of Weightage (Gallantry Awards) - Additional Weightage as mentioned below will be added to the overall aggregate marks obtained in AIEEE by the candidates, if either of their parents have been awarded any of the following gallantry awards before arriving at final AIT Merit: -

(a) Gallantry Award

(i) Param Vir Chakra - Weightage = 5%.
(ii) Ashok Chakra - Weightage = 5%.
(iii) Mahavir Chakra - Weightage = 4%.
(iv) Kirti Chakra - Weightage = 4%
(v) Vir Chakra - Weightage = 3%.
(vi) Shaurya Chakra - Weightage = 3%.
(vii) Sena Medal (Gallantry Only) - Weightage = 1%.

(b) Distinguished Service in War / Conflict / Hostilities

(i) Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal - Weightage = 3%.
(ii) Uttam Yudh Seva Medal - Weightage = 2%
(iii) Yudh Seva Medal - Weightage = 1%.

(c) Mention in Dispatches - Weightage = 1%.

(d) War Widows/ Wards of War Widows - Weightage = 5%.

Note

a) Weightage - Weightage given for Gallantry Award and Wards of War Widow will not be Cumulative. Only one Weightage i.e. Wards of War Widow or Gallantry Award, whichever is higher, will be granted.

(b) Proof of Award - Proof of the Award duly attested (Part II Order / Copy of the citation / Government of India Gazette Notification conferring the Award clearly specifying the gallantry nature of the award) should be submitted with the application for claiming the weightage. In absence of the same, specified percentage will not be added. No representation in this regard will be entertained subsequently.

(b) Wards of War Widows - Proof of death of husband and Battle Casualty Certificate along with attested copy of Part II order should be submitted.

Scholarships
- There are various Scholarships offered by the Institute and other Organisations.

These are:

1.  Scholarships awarded by AIT:

  1. Upto four lakhs each year are given in scholarship to students who have minimum 80% attendance.
  2. 56% (min) marks and whose parents are either JCOs or ORs.
  3. Children of JCOs get Rs. 2000/- per year.
  4. Children of ORs get Rs. 4000/- per year.

2.  Scholarships financed by TATA Trust in case of Information Technology & Computer Engg & Indian Express in case of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering & Mechanical Engineering:

  1. Rs. 25,000/- for First Rank holders.
  2. Rs. 15,000/- for Second Rank holders.

3.  Tata Trust and Indian Express sponsors:

  1. Rs. 2,40,000/- each for the Scholarship of toppers.

4.  Horizon is an Indian NGO founded by Ex-servicemen Company, started offering Scholarship amounting to:

  1. Rs. 1,50,000/-. This Scholarship is open for the wards of JCOs and ORs.

5.  Gold and Silver Medals are given to Meritorious students of each class.
    
Sports - AIT has an excellent infrastructure for all major Indoor/Outdoor Sports like Cricket, Tennis, Table Tennis, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Badminton, Squash etc.. Basketball at night is a favourite past time of AITians. A well-equipped Gymnasium is separately available for boys and girls.

Cyber-Cafe - A Cyber Cafe with 2MB link has been established in the academic block to provide Internet and e-mail facilities to AIT students during or beyond College timings.

Cafeteria - In addition to Hostel Messes, two Cafeterias are there within the Campus. One is in the shopping complex near the boys Hostel. Another one is an Open-Air Cafeteria next to the Academic Block. Menu includes North and South Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine at reasonable rates.

Shopping Complex - A Shopping Complex exists within the Campus to cater for day to day requirements of the inmates. Stationary, food, general stores, cafeteria and bank form part of this complex.

Banking - HDFC is running a 24 hours ATM counter in the Academic Block. Bank of Baroda, SBI, IDBI and Bank of Maharashtra have branches within few kilometres of AIT with ATM facility.

Medical
- An In-Campus MI room with nursing assistant takes care of minor Medical needs of the students. However, for all kinds of medical aid students are taken to MI room BEG and MH Kirkee.

Alumni - The Alumni association has it's own website - http://alumni.aitpune.edu.in.

Miscellaneous Services - Facilities like ISD/STD/FAX, Cable TV are also available in Campus.

Placement - A large number of Institutes' students have been picked by  Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, HSBC and other top end Corporate Houses. In spite of global recession and slowdown of growth in Indian Industries the Institute's Placements are already 87 %.

Achievements

  • The Institute obtained accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in May 2007.
  • It was awarded ISO 9001:2000 Certification for quality Management and administration in Aug 2005 and re-certification in Aug 2008.
  • AIT is ranked amongst the Best Engineering Colleges of India.
  • Students of the Institute continue to excel in Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular Activities like winning National Level Technical Contests like the ‘Code 4 bill’ and ‘Security Contest’ by Microsoft and walking away with most of the Prizes in Cultural Contests such as AFMC Silhouettes, Fundamentals (SID), Ethopia (Sakal) and SICSR 08.
