The Board of Intermediate Education Andhra Pradesh, A.P was established in 1971, to regulate and supervise the system of Intermediate education in the state of Andhra Pradesh and to specify the courses of study and matters connected their with. Andhra Pradesh is the first state in the country which adopted the 10+2+3 pattern of education.

The Intermediate Public Examination is being conducted since 1978-79 both at the end of 1st year course and at the end of 2nd year course. Earlier the Public Examination was only at the end of 2nd year. The candidates are examined in Part-I English, Part-II Second Language and Part-III Group subjects for 500 marks in 1st year and 500 marks in 2nd year in Arts Group, and 470 marks in 1st year and 530 marks in 2nd year in MPC group, and 440 marks in 1st year and 560 Marks in 2nd year for the Bi.P.C. group. The percentage of pass marks in each paper is 35. The division in which the candidates are placed is decided on the basis of their passing all the papers in the 1st year and in the 2nd year. Those who secure 60% and above marks are placed in I division, those who secure 50% and above marks but below 60% in II division and others in III division.

A.V.E. Cell - The Audio Visual Education Cell of the Board of Intermediate Education, A.P. was created in 1987 to plan, organise, supervise and co-ordinate with various agencies in the preparation of lessons for the benefit of Intermediate students in the form of Audio Visual cassettes to be telecasted through Ku-Band on Mana T.V. So far the A.V.E. Cell has produced about 300 cassettes, out of which nearly 270 cassettes have been telecasted through MANA TV under Channel - I and another 140 cassettes are under production. Channel-II is an interactive channel with Live telecast.

Board Units /Offices

Unit Offices - The Head Office of the Board consists of the Secretary, Controller of Examinations, Additional Secretary, six Joint Secretaries, eleven Deputy Secretaries, one Public Relations Officer and Special Officer (Urdu). There is an Educational Research & Training Wing consisting of One Proffesor, two Readers, five Assistant professors and one EDP Manager. There are 47 sections and 23 Regional Offices in all. The total personnel working in the B.I.E. including subordinate offices is 424. The Head office of the Board is housed in its own building at Nampally, Hyderabad.

Each Regional Office is headed by one Regional Inspection Officer, who is a senior Principal of Govt. Jr. College on deputation to the Board. There is an Administrative Officer in each Regional Office.

Board Affiliation

The board has various Affiliated Colleges, some of which also provide vocational study, in the district of Adilabad, Chittoor, Kadapa, Guntur, Mahaboobnagar etc.

  • To lay down regulations for the administration of Junior Colleges.
