Mother-In-Law's Day is a special day which is observed to pay regards to mother in law's for their support and help. It also honours their efforts and is a token of love and affection by the concerned. It is generally celebrated as probably no group in history has got more undeserved flak than that of mothers-in-law. It is observed on Fourth Sunday in the month of October. It is believed that Mother-In-Law's Day was started in Amarillo, Texas in 1934 when Gene Howe, editor and publisher of the "Tactless Texan" newspaper column somehow offended his mother-in-law Nellie Donald. Howe, in humble retreat, announced that on March 5, 1934, Mother-In-Law Day would be celebrated along with the Amarillo Fat Stock Show celebration. On January 23, 2002 the first Mother In Law day holiday was created. It is observed since then ever year. It is not as widespread as other occasions as it is observed only in few countries.

On this day Mother-In-Law's get special treatment. Activities on this day may include special meals, restaurant treats, presenting gifts such as a book or even a special cheese, something a Mother-In-Law is particularly fond of or anything else that she might especially like. Cards are also sent along with a personal note, which expresses appreciation for something she has done.
