Assistant commandant-One more coveted uniformed job directly related service to the nation. Assistant commandants serves as officers in various paramilitary forces like, Boarder Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibet Boarder Police and Special Security Bureau acronyms as BSF/CRPF/ITBP/SSB respectively. All these forces were made to do a particular task in particular area but with the time these forces are trained to work in each and every condition and in any kind of demographic area. So do are its officers and jawans. To be a part of these forces is really a feeling of proud in itself. But the aspirants should keep in mind that to be a part of these forces means to be able to be every kind of hardship as these force are made to move on a minutes’ notice from one area to another area. One has to be really a brave and strong person to join these forces as Assistant commandant. To be a commandant means extra responsibility of being carrying and motivation his men to be ready for any kind of adversity twenty four hour a day and 365 days of the year. Irrespective of all these hard ships there is no dearth of aspirants who wants to join these forces every year. And this is not for any kind of comfort or job this is the respect and honor of wearing Indian Paramilitary forces uniform. That is why there is a lot of competition to join these forces too and only those who are the most competent among the eligible are selected after rigorous written, Psychological and physical tests so that only the best among the most eligible could be selected and trained to safe guard the country from its inner conflicts and the crosses boarder battles. Therefore this job is considered a tough career. So to discharge his duties one has to be very dedicated towards his work responsibilities, brave, hardworking, and full of courage. To be an Assistant Commandant one has to undergo a selection process of written and Physical exams so that only the competent few among so many aspirants could be selected

Eligibility to be an Assistant Commandant in Various Paramilitary Forces

1. Educational Qualification:
To be eligible for becoming an Assistant Commandant one should hold a Bachelor’s degree of any stream. Those appearing in the final year exam, of their degree course are also eligible to apply, subject to their qualifying in the exam.

Possession of NCC B or C certificate or outstanding sports or athletic certificate is an added qualification.

2. Age:

The candidate must have attained the age of 19 years on 1st July of the year of examination and must not have attained 25years of age on that date.
Relaxation in upper age limit for SC/ ST candidates by 5 years and for OBC by 3 years.

3. Physical Standards:

For Male:

  • Height: 165 cms,
  • Chest: 81 cms unexpanded (with 5 cms minimum expansion),
  • Weight: Proportionate to height.
  • Eye sight: Refer to the official notification for specific details.

For Female:

  • Height: 157 cms, Weight: Proportionate to height but notless than 46 kgs.
  • Eye sight: Refer to the official notification for specific details.

Process to be an Assistant Commandant
To be an Assistant Commandant one has to follow the below given steps:-

Step 1
As a first step the aspirant has to procure the “Application Form” along with required information from the employment newspaper generally published in the month of April. sent the filled Application form to the regional centers as mentioned.

Step 2
Aspirants have to take the Written Exam. Carrying 300 marks, in the following subjects

Part 1
Intelligence test and general knowledge (GK, Intelligence & Reasoning and Numerical ability) - 200 marks

Part II
Essay writing, precise writing and Comprehension of a given passage - 100 marks.
Essay in Hindi or English while Precise writing and Comprehension of a given passage etc. in English only.

All the candidates who qualify in the written test would be called for physical efficiency tests (PET), which would be qualifying in nature.

Step 3
Physical Efficiency Tests: Physical efficiency tests comprise of the following items.

i) 100 Metres race in 16 seconds (Male), 18 seconds (Female)

ii) 800 Meters race in 3 minutes (Male), 4 minutes (Female).

iii) Long Jump: 3.50 meters (Male), 3 meters (Female)

iv) High Jump: 1.05 meters (Male), .90 meters (Female)

v) Shot Put (7.26 Kgs.) : 4.50 meters (Male).

Failure even in one item of this test amounts to disqualification. In items, (iii), (iv) & (v), three chances are given to candidates while item (v) is not applicable to Female candidates.

The candidates who qualify the P.E.T. are called for interview and medical examination.

Step 4
Part III Interview (Personality test) carrying 200 marks.

Step 5
Required number of candidates would be appointed from the final merit list to the various organizations (BSF, CRPF, ITBP) as per the availability of posts and keeping in view the preferences given by the candidates.

Remunerations and prospects after becoming an Assistant Commandant

An Assistant Commandant gets the pay scale of Rs.15600-39,100.The Government of India has fixed salary grades for its employees at various posts. Although they keep on changing with new pay commission

Note:- The above scales only provide an idea of the pay scales. Different branches of the service have different scales of pay. Even personnel of same branches may have different pay according to their area of posting and responsibility they are holding at a particular time.

In addition to the salary Assistant Commandant receive various types of allowances such as Dearness Allowance, City compensatory Allowance, Leave Travel Allowance, Medical and subsidized housing.

Prospects of the Assistant commandant varies according to the force they have joined like in ITBP the hierarchy of the post is as given below

1. Assistant Commandant get promotion to the rank of
2. Deputy Commandant after 6 years of service.
3. Second-in-Command after 11 years in service
4. Commandant after 15 years of the service

The promotional prospects are bright and Officers can reach upto the level of Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General
