Film Producer is the professional who initiates the process of making a film. Production of films is one of the most daring and challenging profession in the film industry. With average two movies being produced in a day in Indian film industry it has attained high competitiveness. Thus one who is aspiring to be a Film producer or a Movie Producer must be a highly determined person.

Film Producer job includes shouldering the responsibilities of pre and post production film, leave alone the making of the film. A producer’s job is considered as one of the most important because his work starts before the making of the the film and end well after the release of the film ie he has to handle all the aspects of the film making till the film is reached in the halls. He is the over-all in charge of a film. Producer is responsible right from raising finance up to marketing the film. He is the final decision making authority in all matters, plans related with the production of the film. He is one who manages the technical and artistic resources. It is he who decides the story, obtains legal permission, hires the Director and his assisting team along with actors/actresses. His consent is also take while deciding the crew and the location of the shooting etc. Although Production Manager and Production Assistants help him in his job but in the end he alone is accountable for the success or failure of the project or for that matter even the completion of the project leave alone the success-failure a side. The producer's role is even sometimes combined with that of directing.

To put everything at right place one definitely has to be hardworking, dedicated and passionate about his work. He should really be hungry for the success as he is the one who is going to be affected the most financially, if the production could not match the satisfaction of the masses. For getting some insight into the production of the film one can undergo some short term courses for fine tuning his skills in the field.

Eligibility to become a Film Producer

1. Educational Qualification

Though no specific Educational qualification is required to be a Producer yet some sort of qualification in the related filed will definitely help one out to get the best out of him. Thus Post graduates in Mass Communication or diploma holders from the Film and Television Institutes can enter in the field of film production as a Producer But it is not a compulsion.

Personally he should have good communication skills along with a high degree patience and great endurance as these traits are necessary to handle the all important job of a Producer in the film industry.
Through knowledge and experience in the film industry and entrepreneurial ability to succeed shall be extra advantageous to him in this profession.

2. Age


No age bar is there to be a Film Producer.

How  to become a Film Producer
?

To become a Film Producer one has to follow the below given steps:

Step1

After getting requisite qualification and acquiring basic knowledge of various aspects of film making by informal ways one may go for various certificate and diploma courses offered by film institute’s throughout the country in the field of film production.

However some reputed institutes with limited seats may take an aptitude test before granting admission in their institutions.

Duration of various courses:

  • Certificate course is of one year.
  • Diploma and Post Graduate level courses is of two years.

Step 2

After completion of his training in the relevant filed one can join some big Production houses like Adlabs etc. or can take up his independent assignment and work with the help of his assistants.

Film producer Job Description and Career Prospects

If he succeeds he can rest on the mattresses full of currency notes and if his film does not click he can be pauper the next moment.

In spite of the risks involve in a Film Producer career, there is little to be afraid of as the Film rights have a wide scope of usage in various means of media. Also let's not forget that 'the higher the risks involved, higher will be the returns'. According to law of average a dedicated and hardworking producer can earn a lot of money through his productions.
