About National Sanskrit University

Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati was established as Central Sanskrit Institute at Tirupati in 1961. It was established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in partial fulfilment of the recommendations, for the preservation and propagation of Traditional Sanskrit learning combining it with the modern methods of research. The Government of India constituted an autonomous registered body called ‘Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Tirupati Society’ for the administration of the institution. The foundation stone for the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha was laid by the then Vice-President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan on 4th January, 1962. About forty two acres of land at the foot of the Seven Hills, Tirumala was leased out by the T.T.D. Trust. Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha came under the aegis of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan – an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education in April, 1971. During the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1987, Sri P.V.Narasimha Rao, the then Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India announced the decision of the Government to elevate its status to that of a Deemed University. The Vidyapeetha was declared as a Deemed to be a University on the recommendations of the U.G.C  under Section 3 of UGC Act by the Government of India in its Gazette dated 16-11-1987, No. F.9-2/85 U-3. The Deemed University was formally inaugurated by the then President of India Sri R. Venkataraman on 26th August, 1989. The Vidyapeetha started functioning as a Deemed University from the academic year 1991-92. The University is spread over a sprawling campus of 42 acres encompassing 1 Academic Building, 1 Library and 2 hostel buildings and several other new buildings.

Location - It is located at the foot of the Tirumala Hills the abode of Lord Sri Venkateswara (Balaji) near Alipiri. The Vidyapeetha campus, adjacent to SVIMS (Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences), is at a distance of 4 k.m. away from Railway Station and A.P.S.R.T.C. Bus Stand. It can be approached through Reservoir Road or Balaji Colony.

Facilities

Class Rooms - The Vidyapeetha has sufficient and well furnished class-rooms with well furnished furniture for the conduct of classes for various courses. At present the Vidyapeetha is able to provide class-room accommodation for 1000 students.

E-Class Room - The Electronic Class room is established for the use of computer aided teaching, Human biology in the yogavijanan class using the modern technology.

IASE - Institute of Advanced Studies in Education has a building exclusively meant for the students of the B.Ed and M.Ed. The building consists of Class Rooms, Language Laboratory, Psychology Laboratory, Library etc.  

Hostels - The Vidyapeetha has 4 Hostels - 3 for Boys and 1 for Girls - accommodating around 900 students. The Vidyapeetha has students-managed messes for the inmates of the hostels, where in meals is provided on confessional rates.  2 more hostels for Research scholars & boys and 1 more hostel for girls are under construction. The course writers/subject experts from the outside the campus are accommodated in the transit Hostel. The Transit Hostel is also accommodating the guest faculties and elderly women students of the DDE students during the contact programmes.

Central Library - The Central Library is equipped with 85,000 printed books and 5,500 titles of paper and palm leaf manuscripts The Library completed its automation of Acquisition, Cataloguing and Circulation sections. OPAC facility has already been provided to the users.

Computer Centre - To fulfil the need of computer literacy for Sanskrit, a computer Centre was established and computer education at Prak-sastri (Inter mediate), Sastri (Graduate) level was started from the year 1994.

Multi-media Language Laboratory - The University is equipped with Multi-media Language Laboratory to develop language learning skills of students with the help of language technologies. Besides, the university is also equipped with psychology laboratory where the mental aptitude of students would be tested and trained by experts.    

DDE - Directorate of Distance Education offers various levels of Programmes. The application form & Prospectus can be obtained from the Director, D.D.E, Rashtriya Sanskrit University, Tirupati - 517 064 (A.P.) in person on production of DD Rs. 100/- or through post by sending a DD for Rs. 150/- drawn in favour of Registrar, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati Name and address should be written on the backside of the D.D. The prospectus & Applications form can be downloaded from website and have to attach a demand draft of Rs. 100/- in favour of the Registrar, R.S. Vidyapeetha, Tirupati separately other than the course fees.

Scholarships
- 25 for Prak-Sastri, 5 for each Sastra at Sastri level and 15 for each Sastra at Acharya level will be awarded as per rules. (Scholarships will be awarded to students on the basis of their percentage of marks, merit obtained in the last qualifying examination). Scholarship will be given only for 10 months in a year and scholarship will be sanctioned at once in the beginning of the year only.

1. All the students who have been admitted to various courses in the Vidypaeetha such as Prak-Sastri, Sastri, Acharya, M.Phil. and Vidyavaridhi courses should open the Savings Bank Account with Andhra Bank, S.V. Arts College Branch, Tirupati in order to have any transactions in connection with Vidyapeetha.

2. The admitted students should remit their admission fee/examination fee pertaining to that course in the Andhra Bank, S.V. Arts College Branch, Tirupati through Challan Form available in the Vidyapeetha.

The decision of the Registrar is final and binding with regard to admission etc.  
    
Prak Sastri - Scholarship of Rs. 200/- per month  for 25 students.
Sastri - Scholarship of Rs. 250/- per month for 15 students in each sastra.
Acharya - Scholarship of Rs. 300/- per month for 10 students in each sastra.  
Siksha Sastri - Scholarship of Rs. 150/- per month for the 50% of students admitted.
Siksha Acharya     - Scholarship of Rs. 200/- per month for the 10 students. 
M.Phil. - Scholarship of Rs. 500/- per month for the 25 students.
Vidyavaridhi*  (Regular scholars) - Scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month for the students who secured 60% of marks and above.  
* First year Rs. 500/- only.

Endowments - To encourage merit among the students, the Vidyapeetha has been presenting Gold Medals to the bet graduates at Sastri, Siksha Sastri and for the students securing highest marks at Acharya level in all the Sastras including Siksha Acharya.  All these Vidyapeetha gold medals are presented during the convocation every year. Apart from these, the Vidyapeetha has been presenting Gold Medals endowed in the name of great personalities by donors, Endowment Prizes and Cash prizes to the meritorious students every yea during the Convocation.

Sansk-Net building - It accommodates the Sansk-Net Lab where in the old Shastras and Rare Manuscripts of Sanskrit are keyed into electronic media in collaboration with other Sanskrit and technical institutions with the special assistance of the MHRD and UGC for the use of students and scholars of Sanskrit in India and Abroad.

Multi purpose Gymnasium - A Gymnasium with 16 multiple workstations has been installed in the indoor stadium of the University to facilitate the all-round physical development of the students. A separate gymnasium for girl students has been provided in the girls hostel.

Indoor stadium - The Vidyapeetha has multi-purpose Indoor stadium wherein Indoor games and Aerobic exercises can be practised by the students and staff. The Indoor stadium is equipped with 16 stationed - GYM - Thread Mill, Table Tennis Tables, Tennis courts etc. for the use of students and staff.
