About KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research

KLE University is an Autonomous, Deemed University, which was earlier known as KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research. It is a self financed University and does not receive any financial grant from either Central or State Government. It is one of the leading Universities of Karnataka. KLE University was accorded, University status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India on the advise of the University Grants Commission on 13th April, 2006 (under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide MHRD, G.O.I Notification No.F.9-19/2000-U.3 (A) dt. 13th April 2006). It has been established by KLE Society which was established more than 90 years ago in the year 1916 by seven dedicated Teachers (aptly called as Saptarishis) and three Patrons. They belonged to the Veerashaiva Community and were popularly called as 'Lingayats'. Due to their efforts B.V.B. Engineering College (1947), J.N. Medical College (1963), College of Pharmacy (1975) and Institute of Dental Sciences (1984) were started. The year 1984, ushered in an era of rejuvenation when University's dynamic and visionary Chairman Shri. Prabhakar B. Kore took over the reigns of KLE Society and it grew leaps and bounds in various fields of Education, Health and Infrastructure. The number of institutions quadrupled from 38 to 160, from Primary to Post Doctoral, from traditional to professional level of education. Today, the University offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Post doctoral, fellowship and certificate programs in various medical streams. It is spread over 113 acres area of land and provides various facilities. The emblem / logo of the university features a Palm with 7 stars above it. The Palm represents the palm of the teacher – the hand that acts, promises and guides the students to reach for the Seven Stars. The Seven Stars signify the “Saptarishis Gyanamandal” the Great Bear – a constellation made of seven stars in the sky, each signifying a particular Knowledge Domain.

Facilities

College Library - It is named 'Jnana Soudha' which means 'Temple of Knowledge'. There are 6 reading rooms, accommodating 1000 students at a time. The Library has a collection of about 25,000 books, 200 journals & 9000 backdated issues. The Library follows Dewey Decimal Classification System.

Digital Library - It is fully automated with “EASYLIB” library Management Software and has a Electronic Public Access Catalogue System. It is facilitated with 20 Mbps Lease line for fast internet access and is air-conditioned with more than 60 portals.

E-Learning - The University has established an electronic learning facility on the campus with the help of MEdRC based in Hyderabad. MEdRC is digitizing the entire Medical curriculum (MCI prescribed syllabus) as e-Lectures. These are modularly structured e-Learning lessons by adding multimedia enhancements such as appropriately designed slides, illustrations, graphics and animations developed by MEdRc team of artists, illustrators, animation designers and software engineers. Pre-Clinical (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry) modules are now being offered to students of 1st year MBBS at JNMC. This service enables students to learn at their own pace.

Wi Fi - The entire University campus has total Wi-Fi solution established in place for the benefit of all the staff and students enabling them to access both the internet and also the intranet networks round the clock on all 24× 7 days.

Concessions granted by the University - Various concessions that are available to various categories of students in admission to various courses are given in the Bulletin of Information.

a) 7.5% of the total seats are reserved for students hailing from the backward Belgaum Revenue Division comprising of the Belgaum, Dharwad, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Karwar, Gadag and Haveri Districts.
b) 2.5% of total seats are reserved for children of teachers of the KLE University.
c) 15% of the total seats are reserved for NRI/Foreign students Admission of above categories of students is on inter-se merit.

KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & Medical Research Centre - The centre is a 1830- bedded multi-speciality teaching hospital spread over an area of 16-acres. The hospital has all the basic specialities such as General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Obstetrics etc. It also offers the services of super specialities like Cardiology, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, Neurology Neuro-Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Paediatrics Surgery, Neonatology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Diabetology, Assisted Reproduction Centre, Joint replacement and Arthroscopy, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology etc. In addition to serving as the teaching hospital, to the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, is also where most of the staff do the clinical activities. The Hospital also offers teaching program under the aegis of KLE University for the post-doctoral courses in Cardiology, Neurology, Urology, Cardio-thoracic and Vascular Surgery.

Women’s and Children’s Health Research Unit - It is involved in strengthening Medical Education as well as developing research capacity and clinical care services in Maternal and Child Health. The research unit has forged a strong Public Private Partnership with the Belgaum District Health Administration for implementing community based interventions impacting maternal and child health.

Auditorium - Acoustically built, 1200 seater air conditioned auditorium with audio, video & cinema facilities on the campus.

Career Counselling - There is a well established, informative career and PG Entrance forum in the campus. It attends to the career needs of the students, and make them aware of various post graduate, super speciality courses. It also provides in-house training and counselling as well.

Alumni - It organizes Regional, National & International level get-togethers periodically.

Sports Facilities - These include olympic standard indoor game complex, outdoor stadium and Lawn Tennis Court on the Campus.

Laboratories - The university is well equipped with world class laboratories.
