About International Institute of Information Technology - IIIT Hyderabad

The International Institute of Information Technology (formerly Indian Institute of Information Technology), Hyderabad is an autonomous, self-supporting institution started in 1998 with seed support from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. A major goal of IIIT is to impart a uniquely broad and interdisciplinary IT education of the highest academic quality. This is achieved through an integrated curriculum that consists of a highly diverse set of IT courses, interdisciplinary IT research projects, day-to-day interaction with industry, preparation in entrepreneurship and personality development courses.

Infrastructure

Located in Hyderabad, the future Silicon Valley of India, the Institute combines the freedom of an academic institution with the strength of the corporate sector. It enjoys the locational advantage of being close to the HI-TEC City (a centre housing software development centres of companies like Microsoft, Oracle, Motorola, Infosys and GE Capital) and the presence of IT majors from across the globe right on the campus through their schools and research centres.

Hyderabad combines spectacular growth in Information Technology with the charm of a high quality of life. The Institute has a campus of 62 acres abutting the institutional area of the Hyderabad Central University and about 3 kms. from the HI-TEC City. Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB) and the CMC Research and Development Centre are located very close to IIIT. The Indian School of Business, a prestigious business/management institution, is being established by prominent Indian business houses in a campus adjacent to the IIIT campus. IIIT interacts with the educational, research and other academic institutes and acts as a resource centre for information technology. One example of this interaction is the catalyzing of the 'MSIT ' programme.

Apart from hostel there are 50 executive rooms and an air conditioned guest house.Expansion of the infrastructure facilities is being carried out. A new academic complex with large lecture halls, research centers, laboratories, hostels, married housing will be ready in the first phase.

Research centres aim at developing IT for specific problems provide students with opportunities for involvement in IT problem solving and innovation. Major national and international IT companies are actively involved in IIIT's academic programmes through their corporate schools on the campus. These include IBM,Signal Tree, Motorola and Oracle.
