About Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology

Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology was established in 1987 as “Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering” by Government of Haryana, with an annual intake of 60 only, it emerged as premier technological institution of the country in a short span of time. Due to its contribution to technical education, the institute was upgraded to a university and renamed as ‘Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science & Technology” through an act of legislation dated 30.10.2006 issued vide Haryana Govt. notification No. Leg./33-2006 dated 6.11.2006. It is named after Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram, who was a renowned educationist. He was awarded with various awards of the likes of Rai Bahadur (1919), Deenbandhu (1942), Rehbar-e-azam (1944). Besides being a luminary figure in agricultural & educational reforms, he was involved in various developmental policies for joint Punjab including Bhakhra's Project. The Govt. of Haryana is quite apt in naming the University after this illustration son of the soil of joint Punjab. The University is spread over 273 acres and has a fully residential campus. The university has separate zones for the academic, residential and recreational activities.

Location  - The University is located on the National Highway No. 1(G.T. Road) 48 Km. from ISBT, New Delhi towards Chandigarh.

Facilities

Hostel Facilities - There are in total five hostels, one for girls having capacity of 150 girls and rest four for boys having capacity of 966 boys. All the hostels have their individual mess, club cum common room, guest room etc. One girls hostel of capacity 300 girls is under construction.

Facilities:

  • Hostels are provided with 24 hours electricity supply through special provisions. Besides this facilities of inverters have been provided in dining hall, club rooms, guest rooms etc.
  • Adequate water supply arrangements for drinking and other uses have been provided. Water coolers and water purifiers have also been installed in all the hostels to provide safe drinking water to hostel inmates.
  • The Hostel Mess provides very delicious and hygienic food to the hostellers. Mess menus are prepared by the students. Mess management and procurements are also managed by the students themselves under the supervision of wardens, on purely no profit, no loss basis.
  • All the hostels have their individual Common Room cum Club, providing ample space and facilities of audio-visual entertainment with L.C.D TV & audio systems. Every hostel has separate dish antenna, providing facilities for viewing all available TV channels.
  • The Hostels provide ample facilities for various games and sports. Indoor games like chess, carom, table tennis are provided in common rooms. Facilities for outdoor games like, volley ball, football, badminton, basketball, cricket, etc. are also provided. Billiard table has been added in K. S. Krishnan hall, which has become a star attraction.
  • Small gym facilities have also been provided in few hostels, this facility is further being upgraded.
  • All the famous national and regional newspapers are available to the students in common rooms. Besides newspapers, magazines relating to various subjects, sports, general knowledge, current affairs, electronics, films etc are also made available to students to provide opportunity for their overall development. Few hostels have maintained a small library also.
  • All the hostels have their individual guest rooms to facilitate parents/relatives occasionally visiting students. In acute emergencies these guest rooms are also used when parents have to reside with ill/sick student.

Library - The Library is located in Electrical Engineering Block. It has collection of about 34434 books of various fields, 15 leading newspapers and 43 magazines/technical journals and e-journals are the prominent feature of library. Library remains open from 9am to 5pm. The library has Internet Access to provide search capabilities from the libraries of universities throughout the world.

UCC - University Computer Centre provides central computing and internet facilities to students, teachers and staff members.

Some of the Facilities:

  1. University is owning Intranet of 400 Nodes.
  2. 10 Mbps leased line from BSNL to facilitate  internet access to University intranet users.
  3. Video Streaming Servers to broadcast Video lectures over University Intranet.
  4. Computer Labs for all Engineering UG and PG courses.
  5. Printing and Reprography facilities.

Scholarships - The Haryana State Counselling Society provides for scholarships/Freeships for students pursuing Master and Doctorate programmes in the State of Haryana for attracting talent in Technical Education and to add to the teaching and research.

Some of the Scholarships/Freeships:

1.  M. Vishvesvariya Scholarship

  • B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch. course.
  • Up to Rs. 40,000/- per student per year or actual tuition fee whichever is less.
  • Topper of each branch in each Institute.

2.  Sir M.Vishvesvariya Scholarship

  • MBA course.
  • Up to Rs. 25,000/- per student per year or actual tuition fee whichever is less.
  • Topper of each Institute.

3.  Arya Bhatta Research Scholarship

  • M.Tech.
  • Up to Rs. 40,000/- per student per annum or actual tuition  fee which ever is less Plus Rs. 5000/- per month for contingency and Boarding and Lodging.
  • The candidate should have valid GATE Score.

Health Centre - The university has well equipped dispensary & all the student are provided medical aid at the dispensary within the available resources. Serious medical cases are send to Civil Hospital, Sonepat. One male & one female doctor are residing in the Campus and a total of 4644 O.P.D. (Out Patient Department) cases were seen during 2003-04 session in the dispensary. Medicines and treatments are provided to the students free of cost.

Shopping Complex

The university-shopping complex is spread over 1 acre piece of land having six commercial shops i.e.

  • Cafeteria.
  • Photostat and STD.
  • Departmental Store.
  • Juice Corner.
  • Stationary Shop.
  • Photo Studio.
  • To facilitate the students there is separate building for bank and post office at the first floor of the shopping complex to provide mail and accounting.

Placement Cell

Training & Placement Cell arrange the following activities:

1.  Training - There is provision to provide industrial training to the students of Bachelor of Engineering for 42 days each after the end of 4th semester and 6th semester examination, respectively. A committee constituted by each department evaluate and rates training for further improvements. Suggestions of the committee are also included in the report. Most of the students take industrial training in reputed industries like, HAL, CMC, HMT, BEL, BHEL, Maruti, Escorts, Eicher, Hero Honda, Osram, Honda Scooters, NFL, Refineries, Power Plants, Railways, Prasar Bharati, Airports Authority of India, IOC LTD., (R&D CENTRE), HCL, BSNL etc. situated in National Capital Region (Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida belt).

2.  Placement - Many reputed industries like TCS, Infosys, Motrola, Minda, Perot Systems (TSI), Quark, HFCL, ISGEC, CDIL, Dabar India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter, Spice Telecommunications, Hitachi, Frick’s India Ltd, Indo-Asian Fuse Gear Ltd, Newgen Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Punwire Ltd, Onida Savak Ltd, Infogain, HCL Infosys etc. visit the campus for recruiting final year students of different branches.

3.  Industry Institute Interaction - An AICTE sponsored Industry Institute Partnership Cell is involved in strengthening more and more interaction to nearby industries. It is monitored by a committee consisting of industrialist and faculty members of the college under the Chairmanship of Director-Principal. Consultancy and joint research is being envisaged through the cell. Industrial visits are arranged for faculty and students. To enhance the knowledge of the students and the staff, Lectures of Experts from Industries are arranged regularly. Industrial training is also provided to the staff and students of the college.

Guest House - University campus is also equipped with a guest house of an area of 2000 sq. feet. The guest house is to facilitate the visiting of VIP Delegates, Company representatives and other visiting faculties. It is very spacious and bejewelled with all the amenities.

Alumi - The Alumni of the University plays an important role in uniting the past and the present of the University. Such a conglomerate has a productive and nostalgic effect on both the pass-outs and the students.
