About Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences

Saveetha University or Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, is a Private Deemed University which specialises primarily in medical education. Apart from medical education it also offers various courses from professional disciplines namely law, management and engineering. The history of Institutions of this flagship University goes back to 1986 when Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust was started to provide medical relief, to promote education and to encourage research. On 18^th November 1988, Saveetha Dental College was established, subsequently, in the year 1992 Saveetha College of Nursing, in 1993 College of Physiotherapy, in 2001 Saveetha Engineering College and in 2005 College of Engineering and Technology. In the same year, the University was declared as deemed to be university under section – 3 of the UGC act, 1956 vide notification NO.F.9-3/2002-U.3 dated 18th March 2005 of the government of India. Continuing with its expansion, in 2008 Saveetha Medical College and Saveetha School of Management were established. In the following year, i.e. in 2009 Saveetha School of Law was started. Previously governed by Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust, it is governed by the Chancellor Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan and managed by the Vice Chancellor Dr. Mythili Bhaskaran as of 2015.

Saveetha University has two campuses comprising eight disciplines of studies.

Poonamallee Campus– It is the main campus and comprises of:

• Saveetha Dental College
• Saveetha School of Law
• Saveetha School of Management

Thandalam Campus – It is the second campus and comprises of:

• Saveetha Engineering College
• Saveetha Medical College
• Saveetha Physiotherapy College
• Saveetha School of Nursing
• Saveetha School of Engineering

Location - The main campus of the University is located on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway (NH4), 8 Kms. from the Chennai Mofussil Bus Stand, 18Kms from the Chennai Domestic and International Airports, 18 Kms. from the Central Railway Station and 20 Kms. from the Harbour.

The Saveetha Nagar campus is located 10 Kms. away from the main campus, midway between Poonamallee and Sriperumbudur, on the same Chennai-Bangalore National Highway NH4.

Achievements

• In 2014, a total of 1, 01,309 schoolchildren were screened for dental problems in a single day at 77 centres across the country, including Chennai at Saveetha University, earning the event an entry in the Guinness Book of Records

• As of October, 2013 the institute holds over 80 patents in various disciplines
