About Academy of Maritime Education and Training - AMET

Academy of Maritime Education and Training - AMET was established on 15th February 1993. Then it was known as Academy of Maritime Education and Training. On 21th August 2007, AMET was conferred Deemed University status by UGC/MHRD on the basis of it's Maritime courses & Training. It is a private enterprise promoted by AMET Trust. It offers various Diplomas, Degrees & Post Graduate Degree Courses. AMET University provides the best infrastructure in terms of class rooms with modern teaching aids, well equipped workshops for practical training, Marine workshop for hands on training on Marine Auxiliaries, Ship in campus, well furnished Hostel, Canteen facilities, Indoor & Outdoor games, Swimming pool, Medical facilities & an overall congenial atmosphere for learning by the students.

Location - It is situated at kanathur, on the outskirts of the City of Chennai.

Hostels - The University has Hostels for about 1100 cadets. It is equipped with medical facilities, kitchen and dining hall etc. There is also a Hostel for 30 officers.

  • AMET University is certified to ISO 9001:2000 QMS Standard by Det Norske Veritas till 2010 for Design, Development and Conducting Maritime Training Courses, Programmes, Examinations and Assessments.
  • ISO Certification for Process Management.
  • CRISIL as graded all DG Approved courses as Grade I - Excellent. CRISIL has assigned a “Grade 1” (outstanding) to the Courses approved by the Director General of Shipping, i.e. B.E. Marine Engg., Marine Technology, B.Sc. Nautical Science & Graduate Marine Engg. Courses offered by the University.

  • The Angolan cadet sponsored by Wallems - Cadet Carvalho Afonso has been adjusted the best Engineer by GCNS and has bagged the UK Marine Society Prize.
  • AMET is in its 15th year of collaboration with Glasgow College of Nautical Studies to conduct the Higher National Diploma Courses in two parts, the first year at AMET Chennai, and the second year at GCNS, Glasgow.
  • AMET’s Social Responsibility Initiative - NAESEY generates employment opportunities through free rural industrial training. So far 60,000 rural youngsters have been empowered.
