About Suresh Gyan Vihar University

Suresh Gyan Vihar University (SGVU) is a private, self financed university incorporated by Government of Rajasthan vide Suresh gyanvihar university jaipur Act 2008 (Act no 16 of 2008) and established through an extraordinary gazette notification on 21 April 2008. It is a university which is composed of different educational schools and institutes located on the outskirts of Jaipur. SGVU is the outcome of a visionary man, Shri Acharya Purushottam Uttam, an academician. Acharya was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's dream of making education easily accessible to all sections of the society and not just the elite. He abandoned his political ambitions to devote all his time and effort towards making education freely available to all. In this pursuit he formed the “Sahitya Sadawart Samiti”. Under it's aegis he was joined by like minded people, like his son Shri Suresh Sharma and in 1994, a pre-primary school in Jaipur was established. It was in 2000 that the University took it's form as an institute of higher education, when a patch of land was acquire in Jagatpura, on the outskirts of Jaipur. Soon, a number of institutions were established which provided education form Kindergarten level to Ph.D. level. University Grants Commission has release the approval for the establishment of the University and empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC U/S 22 of UGC Act 1956 through its notification no. F.9-38/2008(CPP-I) dated 1 April 2009. SGVU also provides several programs which have been approved by AICTE. 3 of its engineering departments - Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering have been accredited by NBA for the academic session 2008 to 2011. It's B.Pharma course is approved by Pharmacy Council of India. Gyan Vihar is situated on sprawling campus of 31 acres in the historic city Jaipur.

Facilities

Hostels -  The University campus has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. There are 6 Hostels, 2 for girls and 4 for boys. All the rooms have been provided with basic amenities like bed, table, chair, small cupboard and electrical fittings.

Other facilities include:

  • All the hostel rooms are provided with LAN connectivity with 24 hours internet through the main server.

Library - The library is spread over an area of area of 6000 sq feet and has been located in the Administrative Block of the University to make it approachable & within reach of the visitors and outsiders. It has a collection of 52741 books and other literary material like News Papers and Magazines, Periodicals, CD's etc. It provides Computer Access with Internet facility, reference Services, book bank (1071 books) etc. The online Public Access Catalogue (Web-Opac) can be accessed on internet to search more 2,50,000 bibliographic records available in the Library Database through a web-based search interface or with windows client of the TLSS.

Internet Facility - The university has campus wide network whose bandwidth is 40 MBPS, directly from national internet backbone. The internet speed of the University is as fast as local area network. To make the internet Bandwidth future proof university had deployed Gigabit optical technology (GPON) from BSNL. The network is so smart that it can provide direct connectivity with national knowledge network (NKN) which is one of the network between premium institution like IIT’s, national laboratory., NIT’s IISc ,IISERer.

In-House Training Programs - It is a training department for the students where they get additional professional certification in helping them grow and survive in the competitive environment. Some of the training partners are Centre for Electronic Governance, Rajasthan, RedHat Academy, CISCO, IBM etc.

Research - SGVU is also a research oriented university which offers research programmes in the areas of Engineering, Applied, Pure sciences, Pharmacy, Education and Management leading to the award of Ph.D. degree.

To achieve this, it has:

CAWM - Centre for Air & Water Modalling develops research projects regarding areas of concern which have a deleterious effect on the health of the local population. It is devoted for sustainability of human for water and air research and other interdisciplinary research.

KDC - Knowledge Dissemination Centre is involved in various educational activities related to various industries. It trains engineers, managers, other professionals and postgraduate students to manage project designers and become responsible for technical areas and as well as manufacturing areas.

KDC has centre of excellence which have tie-ups with international organizations for the benefit of students. These are:

  1. Red-Hat Academy - It educates about various advantages of Linux operating systems and other related activities.
  2. Cisco Local Academy - It provides advanced courses for network administration /administrator solutions.
  3. AUTOCAD and PRO-E of AUTODESK - It provided training on CAD, CAM software (AutoCAD, 3Ds, MAX, PRO/E think3, think design, think iD etc.).
  4. RATIONAL ROSE Software of IBM (IBMM Rational SEED Programme Association) - It provides training programmers to student, professional and corporates in Rational Rose Enterprise edition V7.0. and Rational Requisite Pro V 7.0.
  5. Microsoft Programme and Trainings - It provides training in rapid application developments for various professionals.

C3R - Centre for Climate Change & Research is involved in research & development activities for study of effects of climate change on the life of flora and fauna of arid zone of western India. C3R is under establishment near Sambhar Lake over more than 100 acre of land.

Scholarships - The university provides various Scholarships / Freeships.

These are:

  • 100% cost of study - It is meant for Dependent of Martyrs and is eligible for Children / Spouse of Martyrs (Indian Soldier).
  • 100% free ship (tuition fee) - It is meant for merit holders of various competitive exams like IIT JEE, AIEEE and others.
  • 50% free ship (tuition fee) - It is meant for merit holders.
  • Teaching Assistantship - It is meant for M. Tech / M. Pharma Pursuing students.
  • Post-Metric Scholarship Scheme.
  • Teachers Welfare Fund Trust.
  • Vidya – Varidi Scholarship Scheme.
  • Indian Oil and NTPC Scholarship Scheme.

Industrial Tours & Excursions - SGVU organises periodic short or long industrial visits as a part of the curriculum. These inform students about the latest trends and changes in the industrial scenario.

ISTE Chapter - Indian Society for Technical Education Chapter has been established in the Institution. All Technical Colleges of the country are members of ISTE. The membership of the society can be either institutional or individual consisting of engineering teachers, administrators or students.     

Seminars and Guest Lectures - These are organised to sharpen students presentation and communication skills. The students are required to present papers during student seminars. In-house faculties are required to conduct seminars in their fields of specialization or on subjects of interest as apart of the academic curriculum.

Health Services - Round the clock healthcare facilities are available both at campus health centre and also in the hostels. The health centre conducts regular medical check-ups annually for students and staff. It also organizes awareness meetings from time to time related to health related problems of both faculty and the students.     

Campus Amenities - University  campus is self-sufficient with block-topped well-lit roads. Its facilities include a canteen, STD / ISD pay phones, courier service, a book store and postal facilities.

Transportation - The university has its' own fleet of buses and other modes of transportation to ease commutation.

Lecture Halls - There are more then 100 Lecture Halls equipped with well-equipped facilities.

Conference Hall - Conference Hall has state of the art facilities for carrying out conferences and meetings.

Seminar Halls - There are 3 fully air conditioned seminar halls with a seating capacity of about 250. It is equipped with LCD projector, computer and latest audio equipments.

Gymnasium - The university gymnasium is equipped with all modern equipment and is open for boys and girls at separate times during mornings and evenings.

Cafeteria - It has the facility of a spacious and clean canteen where Food is available at nominal rates.

Extra Curricular Activities

These are:

  • X-Animo - The universitys Annual Day is known as X-Animo. It is held in March and provides a platform for students to showcase their talent in the areas of light music, dance, mimicking, modeling etc.
  • Aayam - It is the annual Techfest held in October. It is meant to provide opportunity to upcoming technocrats, to realize their potential, share their vision and expertise. This way students get a chance to express themselves & learn skills like decision making, coordinating & organizing.
  • The Frontiers of Biosciences - It is annual workshop held in January where students of various universities are invited to participate. It's activities include poster competition, quiz competition, practical demonstration of recent techniques of molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology.
  • Management Fest - International School of Business Management organises its annual fest in Mrach. This management festival of ISBM is aimed at providing a common platform to the management students, to put them in the state of competition and networking endeavouring order to enhance their management calibre.
  • Food Glamour - The department of Hotel Management organises activity in February. It provides a platform for the display of skills of the students, develop presentation skills, develop expertise in international / regional cuisines, etc.
  • International Patrika Fair - It is an annual Career Fair held in May. It provides specific knowledge of different areas of engineering, management, pharmacy, education etc. It also acts as a bridge between the students and industry.
  • Pharmacy Week - It is observed annually in November every year. It is involved in various School campaigns to impart awareness & interest amongst future pharmacy students. Village / street corner & shopping centre campaigns are also held for promoting pharmacy services & free advice on disease.
  • Sports Week - SGVU organizes annual sports week provide students opportunity for participation in various games. It also aims at developing in them a sense of healthy competition and importance of health.
  • Other Activities - Apart form the above mentioned activities SGVU organises quiz competitions, essay writing, debate, elocution and cultural activities like Music, Dances and Dramatics. There are various clubs which align their actions with organization’s values. Some of the Clubs are Green (Environment Club), Sporty (Sports Club), Maxi (Books Club), Safe (Transport Club), Innovations (Robotics Club) etc.

Alumni - The university Alumni Association provides a forum to facilitate interaction among the SGVU alumni all over the world. SGVU Alumni engages in charitable and educational activities by raising funds for setting up endowments, creating scholarships, rewarding teaching and research and generally promoting the development of resources. The alumni helps to relive nostalgic memories of the alumni during their days at SGVU.
