About IIS University - International College for Girls - ICG

IIS University is a Deemed University and a Pioneer Institute for Women’s Education. The IISU is a part of IIS Institutional Group which is run by the Indian Council for International Amity and which is a registered non-governmental organization. It was established as International College for Girls (ICG) on 16th July, 1995 as an affiliated college to the University of Rajasthan. In 1999 it became a Postgraduate College. In 2005, ICG was been given the CPE status i.e. a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’, status by UGC. The college is one among the 50 colleges in India identified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the CPE scheme during phase-II. A major milestone in the history of ICG was the conferment of the Autonomous Status on the college by the UGC for a period of six years with effect from 2007-08. ICG was also the only college in Rajasthan which had been accredited A+ by NAAC. In 2009, the college was given the status of ‘Institution Deemed-to-be-University’ by the Central Government on the advice of the University grants Commission and its name was conferred - IIS University.  The college has also been identified as a Model College by the Government of Rajasthan. The IIS University is located on a sprawling campus of 50,331 sq.m.

Facilities at IIS University

Hostels – The University has two centrally air-cooled hostels.

The hostels provides the following:

  • Cot with mattress
  • Almirah,
  • Study table and chair
  • Cloth stand (one for each room)
  • Dustbin (one for each room)
  • Curtains in each room
  • Full-size mirror in each room
  • Hot water supply in common bathrooms through solar heating plant

Library – It has a total collection of about 77,830 Books, 2342 Audio Video collection, 3339 Bound Journals, 4155 Dissertation/Seminar Reports, 3308 Bound Old Question Papers, 300 Brochures from Foreign Universities and 1516 Best Answer Copies. It subscribes to 269 Journals, 42 Online Journals, 146 Periodicals, 23 Newspapers and 12 Electronic databases (subscribed and open database). The Library provides Internet facility to all the users for accessing e-journals and web-resources. The students can avail of the Book-Bank facility provided by the Library. There are multiple copies of textbooks, which can be borrowed by students for the full academic year.

Internet - The entire campus of university is Wi-Fi enabled including library, to provide wireless access to the Internet.

Gurukul - In its pursuit for excellence in education, the society (ICFIA) established ‘Gurukul’ in the year 2005 to provide Special opportunities to the girls of underprivileged families to obtain quality education and enter with pride in the educational spheres. Realizing the personal responsibility towards the betterment of the those less fortunate and to improve their quality of life, IIS Gurukul provides free education, books and uniforms to its students

P.G. Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child - To achieve and promote girls' education, UGC has introduced a Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with an aim to compensate the direct costs of girl education at all levels, especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family. It is provided to only those girl students who are admitted in various non-professional Post Graduate (PG) courses in Universities / Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family without any brother. This scholarship is available to PG-I year student only. Admission to PG course in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme. The girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible.

Fellowships - In order to promote research-based activities in the University, an innovative scheme for granting fellowship to Ph.D. Research Scholars has been initiated, two fellowships will be awarded in each of the following faculties – I) Arts and Social Sciences and II) Commerce and Management Science. The fellowship will be awarded for a period of two years, initially for a period of one year. The research promotion committee after reviewing the progress after one year will recommend for continuance of fellowship, in case progress is found to be satisfactory. No extension is permissible beyond total tenure of two years. The financial assistance will be @ Rs.5,000/- p.m. For more information contact the university.

ICG Institute of Educational Research and Development - Established in 2006, it is the only English medium teachers training college in the State with a mission to train, groom and educate young graduates to become efficient and dedicated teachers and smart professionals

Centre for Information and Technology - The College has one of the most advanced computer departments. Housed on two floors, the department has more than 225 desktops and servers.

Audio Visual Rooms - There are three air-conditioned conference halls equipped with audio-visual systems.

Transportation - A fleet of thirty three buses, equipped with wire-less system, provides transportation facility to the students.

Psychometric Counselling - The Career Counselling Cell conducts various psychological tests and mock interviews to help students prepare and plan for their career appropriately. The Psychometric Testing of students provides the students much needed information about the available career options; keeping in mind their personality, interests and aptitude profiles. The cell also offers counselling to all its students in an attempt to help them cope with the demands of a complex society and find their niche in it.

Health Care - A well-equipped Infirmary is situated in the centre of the campus. The nursing superintendent provides and facilitates medical assistance to the students.

Cafeteria - On-campus Cafeteria dishes out mini meals, snacks, fresh juices, etc. catering to varied tastes. An AMUL window parlour is also located inside the campus.

FM Radio 7 - It is a community radio station of the students, for the students and by the students. Conceived, designed and created by the budding talents of IIS Institutional Network The main objective of the radio station is to increase the community awareness on topics of social relevance, like education, health, environment, rural development, etc. On air at 90.4 MHz FM, it enhances broadcasting, creativity and communication skills.

Research Laboratories - The University has well equipped research laboratories with trained technicians which facilitate research work.

Language Laboratory – It is well equipped with audio-visual installation, provides an important aid in modern language teaching and learning.

Sports - The College provides numerous facilities for a variety of sports like - Shooting, Swimming, Cricket, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Handball, Table-Tennis, Tennis and Athletics. There is a well equipped, fully air conditioned, fitness centre, with gymnasium facility for the students and faculty.

Rotaract Club - The Rotaract club is a member of Rotary International (the worldwide association of more than 250,000 Rotary club). "Rotaract", stands for "Rotary in Action". It is also the part of an international network of over 5,000 Rotaract clubs, and serves an important role in this network. It undertakes professional development, leadership development and service project development activities.

CWS - Centre for Women’s' Studies works for the generation of awareness and dissemination of knowledge related to women’s issues through educational training programmes and extension activities, in and around the college campus.

Guilds - the college has introduced various guilds based on the essentials of personality development and individual excellence.

The University Guilds are:

1.  Cultural Guild – It engages students in developing their musical talent, be it vocal or instrumental. It also prepares them for performances at various levels.

2.  Fashion Design Guild – It provides students with the education and experience necessary for a professional career in fashion designing. The program of study is designed to introduce the students to the broad spectrum of industry, from fashion designing, pattern making, jewellery making, figure sketching, merchandising, marketing, and garment production.

3.  Fine Arts Guild - The purpose of this guild is to make the students learn various innovative and creative techniques such as ceramic painting, murals, stainglass painting, greeting card making, pot making.

4.  Home Management Guild - This guild has been created to inculcate in students, the talent of preserving, protecting, and maintaining a good home. Lectures, demonstrations, and workshops on various topics related to home management as well as an interior space designing, are held and eminent persons of the concerned field are invited.

5.  Eco Friendly Association - It is a committee working in the field of environmental conservation and awareness.

The major roles and functions of the association are:

  • To organize campaigns like Save Energy, Clean Campus, etc
  • To create awareness among students on campus, especially regarding the protection of environment through popular lectures and training programmes.
  • To organize excursions and visits to national parks, sanctuaries and research organizations
  • To create a ‘clean and green consciousness’ among students through various innovative methods

6.  The Ivy League – It is the literary and debating guild of the University and it represents the literary and debating talents of University. It also seeks to establish connectivity among students through activities and discussions that are held on a monthly basis which include group discussions, JAM sessions and debates. The guild thus hones students' communication skills and helps them learn the intricacies of public speaking.
