About Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya

Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (RVSKVV), Gwalior is a State Government Agricultural University. RVSKVV was established by Government of Madhya Pradesh Vide Ordinance No. 4 of 2008 notified in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 507 dated 19th August 2008 as second Agricultural University by bifurcating the JNKVV, Jabalpur. It is named after Vijaya Raje Scindia who was a prominent Indian political personality elected repeatedly to both houses of the Indian parliament. RVSKVV is a Multi Campus University having campuses at Gwalior, Sehore, Indore, Khandwa and Mandsaur. The RVSKVV, Gwalior is responsible for Agricultural Education, Research and Extension in 26 revenue districts of the state, these are Agar Malwa, Alirajpur, Ashoknagar, Badwani, Bhind, Bhopal, Burhanpur, Datia, Dhar, Dewas, Guna, Gwalior, Indore, Jhabua, Khandwa, Khargone, Mandsaur, Morena, Neemuch, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Shajapur, Sehore, Sheopur, Shivpuri and Ujjain. Out of 11 agroclimatic zones of the state, six fall under the jurisdiction of RVSKVV, these are - Gird Region, Malwa Plateau, Nimar Valley, Vindhyan Plateau, Jhabua Hills and Bundelkhand Zone. The overall climate varies from semi arid to sub humid with hot summer, cool and dry winter and 600-1000 mm mean rainfall. The geographical area of the state under the jurisdiction of university contains three types of soils varying from alluvial to medium and heavy black soils spread over six agro climatic zones

The research activities of the University are operated through five Zonal Agricultural Research Stations (Morena, Khargone, Jhabua, Indore and Sehore); four Regional Agricultural Research Stations (Gwalior, Mandsaur, Ujjain and Khandwa) and 6 special research stations (Entkhedi, Bagwai, Jaora and Badwah) having 24 All India Coordinated Research Projects and several adhoc projects to enhance the productivity and profitability of agriculture system. Transfer of technology is the part of extension activities carried out by 19 Krishi Vigyan Kendras. International Accreditation Organization (IAO) has awarded life time international accreditation to the University in 2013. The University is ISO 9001-2008 certified with effect from April 10, 2015. Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya has far-reaching academic programmes focussing on the development of self employment skills and character building of students.

Facilities at RVSKVV

Hostels – The Vishwavidyalaya has 16 hostels including seven for female students at different campuses. Other facilities include common rooms, dining halls, T.V. with cable facility, newspapers, medical facilities etc. The Hostel cafeteria is equipped with refrigerator, water cooler and utensils in adequate quantity. Every hostel has one P and T telephone facility.

Library – Each college has digital library infrastructure facility viz. computers, OPAC, Internet facility etc. fully integrated into the existing Library. There are many CD databases on different disciplines of Agriculture and allied subjects available in library for students. Electronic information like e-books, CeRA, Krishiprabha and Vidyanidhi are also available for students to help them with their academic and research programmes. The library has Book Bank Scheme and Books for preparation for competitive examinations. The Library is well equipped with data capturing unit.

National and International Linkages - The University has developed linkages with international organizations such as ICRISAT, ICARDA, ICRAF, CIMMYT, IRRI, Indo-US-JCERDC, University of Florida and ACIAR as well. The University also has linkages with reputed national level organizations such as IGFRI, Jhansi; IISS, Bhopal; CIAE, Bhopal; NASS & LUP, Bhopal; DSR, Indore; DWSR, Jabalpur and IIPR, Kanpur.

Research Stations - The University has Zonal Agricultural Research Stations in Indore, Sehore, Khargone, Morena and Jhabua. It has Regional Agricultural Research Stations in Gwalior, Khandwa, Mandsaur and Ujjain. It also has Special Agricultural Research Station in Entkhedi, Joara,Bagwai, Badwah, Bhind and Ravine. All the research stations have adequate field and laboratory faculties to conduct research activities. The DNAfinger printing facilities are available at ZARS, Sehore and Indore. Besides these, the research stations have poly houses, net houses and aphid proof net house facilities for conducting research activities. The University has "very old sick plots" for the testing of resistance against Fusarium oxyporum f sp. ciceri and Fusarium oxyporum f sp. lentis.

KVK’s - Directorate of Extension is committed to empower farmers through a well organized network of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs) covering all the six agro climatic zones of Madhya Pradesh. The network of KVKs under University comprises of KVKs at various locations, some of these are Ashoknagar, Badwani, Datia, Dewas, Dhar, Guna, Gwalior, Jhabua etc. The KVKs trains farmers, updates their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies. It also creates awareness about frontier technologies through large number of extension activities like farmers fairs, field days, strategic campaigns, ex-trainees meet, making available the seed and planting materials produced by the KVKs to the farmers etc.

Scholarships – Various scholarship are awarded to the students, some of these are National Talent Scholarship, Junior Research Fellowship and Vikramaditya Yojna.

National Service Scheme - NSS (National Service Scheme) develops a sense of social and civic responsibility amongst the students through its various activities. The Activities under NSS are two-fold, viz. i) Regular activities, which are undertaken during the working days of the semester, and ii) Special Camping activities for 07 days duration in the adopted village/urban slum during vacation. Each NSS unit is expected to adopt a nearby village or slum and work for its all round development. Regular activities and special campus should preferably be organised in the adopted village/rural unit/slum for this purpose. Through these activities the students learn about sharing, leadership qualities and democratic attitude.

National Cadet Corps – NCC (National Cadet Corps) develops character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular, outlook spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the Ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country. Through its activities it creates human resources of organized trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life and always available for the service of the Nation.

Counselling and Placement Cell - Orientation Programme for students is organized in each College. Semester Progress report of every student is sent to their parents by advisors. The University has a full-fledged placement cell under the dean student welfare to arrange for campus interviews for placement of graduate and post-graduate students. The cell also counsels students on the availability of scholarships, avenues for higher studies, foreign study and career opportunities.
