About Anna University - Coimbatore

Anna University, Coimbatore was established on 1st February 2007. Earlier it was a part of Anna University at Chennai which had to be divided into Four Universities in different locations for administrative convenience. Anna University, Coimbatore is an Affiliating type of University by an act of section of 54 of the Anna University, Coimbatore act, 2006. (Tamil Nadu Act No. 42 of 2006). The Government of Tamil Nadu established the Anna University Coimbatore on 01-02-2007. The University is named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai. About 80000 aspiring Engineering graduates study in these Institutions. 80% of the Students come from Rural Background. The University offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, Management and Allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting Research and disseminating knowledge gained there from, it fosters cooperation between the Academic and Industrial Communities.

In September 14, 2011 a bill was passed to merge back the universities and the name was changed to Anna University - Chennai, Regional Centre – Coimbatore. It still has power to grant affiliations to colleges and universities conducting graduate and postgraduate courses related to engineering, technology and management.

Facilities

DODE - Directorate of Online and Distance Education operates through 46 Learning Centres. It is expected that there will be more than 100 Centres this year. The information about various programmes, assignments and seminars are disseminated through these Centres and Integrated Learning Programmes are organized regularly. The Directorate provides courses like MBA, MCA, M.Sc, BBA, BCA, P.G. Diploma, Advanced Diplomas etc.

CIPR - Centre for Intellectual Property Rights concentrates mainly to file as many Patents to give credit to the State of Tamil Nadu in filing patents, Copyrights, Designs and Trademarks. It is helping the students, innovators, and industries in searching data base and filing Patents.

Centre for Research - Centre for Research at Anna University, Coimbatore offers Ph.D Programme (Internal/ External/ Lateral Entry/ Additional Ph.D/ Integrated/ Interdisciplinary) and M.Tech. (By Research) Programme. Research is offered under various Faculties of Engineering and Science. This Centre provides research opportunities to the aspiring candidates serving in Educational Institutions/ Industries/ Research Organizations/ Research Laboratories and Government Departments. Centre for Research encourages the scholars to have collaborative projects with the University. Centre for Research also introduces for the first time On-Line Entrance Examination System for its Research Admission Process, On-Line Doctoral Committee Meetings and for the Course Work Examinations.

Workshops and Seminars - All round the year various Workshops and Seminars are organised by the different Departments of the University.
