About Ahmedabad University

Ahmedabad University (AU) is a self-financed, non-affiliating Sate Private University established under Section 3(1) of the Gujarat Private Universities Act, 2009. It was established in July 2009 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is promoted by Ahmedabad Education Society (AES), a Society established in 1935, which is one of the best education societies in western India. AES was started with inspiration from Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India and visionaries like Sheth Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Shri Amratlal Hargovandas and Shri G.V. Mavlankar, the first Speaker of the Indian Parliament.

For over last 75 years Ahmedabad Education Society (AES) and its promoters have been directly and indirectly instrumental in pioneering many institutions of higher learning such as Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association (ATIRA), Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), National Institute of Design (NID Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) etc. It has also promoted Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University (CEPT University) focusing on architecture, urban planning and related faculties. It was one of the first ones to start a Commerce College and the first in India to start a College of Pharmacy. All its colleges except one have been accredited obtaining grade A. Ahmedabad University enrolls thousands of full-time and part-time students on three major campuses in Ahmedabad.

Hostel Facilities - Limited single gender hostel accommodation is available for out station students on first come first serve basis.

Class Rooms - They are designed as auditoriums, with step up seating to facilitate discussions. They are equipped with wireless connectivity, LCD projectors and overhead projectors.

Library Facilities - Air conditioned library with a rich collection of books, CDs, and various national and international journals.

Computer Centers - Centralized computing facilities are provided to meet the current and future needs which fulfill the requirement of all academics functions of the institute. The hardware and software are constantly being upgraded to meet the latest international standards. The computer center is supported by IBM Windows 2003 based server, Linux Server & Cyberoam Internet Bandwidth Management Server with multiple Laptops, Pentium IV nodes & stand.

Sports Facility - It has very good facilities for cricket and basketball. Various organizations uses these facilities for state and national level sports events.

Computer Lab - The computer lab is well equipped with up to date multimedia computers, free broadband wi-fi access to all students.

Canteen - The institute has on-campus canteen that remains open for entire day.

Students’ Council - The students’ council of the institute, as a team, works for the planning and organizing of all the activities of the institute; be it curricular or co-curricular. Council members act as representatives of their class, thus helping in the smooth communication between the management and the students.

Event Management Committee - The Event Management Committee plans, organizes, mobilizes resources and executes the institutes’ events. It comprises the enthusiastic, hardworking students who have interest in managing events of the institute.

Financial Aid - AU tries to provide the best possible access to any student with merit. To achieve this it has established an extensive financial aid program to assist students from economically disadvantaged families.

NRI Students - With a view to provide higher education in the mother country AU has devised a special admission policy for NRI students. This helps in imparting contextual knowledge and values and culture of India. Students with NRI links are admitted to achieve this. This helps in building the Indian Diaspora.

Major Ahmedabad University Achievements

International exposure-Students are given international exposure to get globalised outlook and thereby enrich their experiential learning. In October 2010 BKMIBA organized international exposure visit to Shenzen Special Economic Zone and 108th China Import and Export Fair in China and Hong Kong.

Participation in programs-In July August 2011 selected students of BBA Honors from BKMIBA participated in six-week emersion module at University of Cambridge, UK. In it, they attended the Pembroke-King’s Program that offered exceptional opportunities to study at Cambridge and had a chance to rub shoulders with fellow participants from Harward, Yele, Penn, Brown, Brigham Young and the University of California. Students also engaged in the Entrepreneurship Module at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.
