About Shobhit University

The Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, vide its Notification No. F-9-37/2004-U.3 (A) dated 8th November, 2006 under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act granted Deemed-to-be University status to Shobhit Institute of Engineering & Technology, Meerut. Shobhit University was launched on 8th Feb, 2007 on the birthday of our Inspirer Babu Vijendra Kumar Ji. It offers under-graduate, graduate and professional programs to the Indian and International student community adopting best practices. It is also engaged in research on the issues that are relevant to industries and global community at large. In the year 1989, under the aegis of the NICE Society, envisioned by Babu Vijendra Kumar Ji, an eminent agriculturist and social worker from Gangoh, Distt. Saharanpur and nurtured by a team of eminent professionals, technocrats, educationists and social workers, the university was envisioned. The University offers students an exceptional range of subjects. In addition to many full-time programmes, the University offers a variety of options, allows you to study at the level and pace, that suit your requirements and needs. Weekend / Part-time options are available for all different types and levels of courses at the University, from undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to foundation and short courses including part-time foreign language programmes, at different schools of the University. The courses normally incorporate formal teaching, tutorials and seminars with individual study, projects and written examinations.

Location and Transportation - The main University campus at Meerut is located on the outskirts of Meerut city on the main Delhi-Meerut-Dehradun National Highway (NH-58), approximately 75 kms. from Delhi.. Meerut has excellent transport links. It is close to the NH-58 providing access to the extensive motorway network. It is on the main railway line connecting Delhi (only an hour and a half away) and there is an international airport at Delhi. Airports can be reached in less than three hours by car or coach. One can also reach the campus by public transport conveniently available from Begum Bridge the heart of city. Buses, City transport, Auto rickshaws etc. drop you right in front of the University campus, which is just 15 minutes drive from the city.

Facilities

Library - The University library is well stocked with a wide range of books in all core, functional and applied areas of study. Leading journals both National and International, Newspapers, Current magazines etc. are subscribed regularly for a quick dissemination of information to students. Library is connected to other national libraries through e-Library facilities and connected to International Library Network. In addition to this, the University is having a unique facility of a Virtual Library which enables the Students and Faculty Members to access approximately 4.5 lakh books in the areas of science, technology management and other relevant areas and even get a softcopy of any portion of the book. The University is also having an Open Source Learning Centre, the students are exposed to watch and hear Talks/Lectures of eminent scholars, professors, and researchers in various disciplines are downloaded from the Web Site for viewing and benefit of the students and members of the faculty. To train our budding scientists, engineers, technocrats and managers and enhance their job-related skills, innovative programme known as 'Ignited Minds Lecture Series' are organised quite often to help the students community to groom their personalities and give them a cutting edge in the global market place. The library is open 16 hours a day during semesters

Lecture Halls - The University has acoustically designed Lecture Halls equipped with modern teaching aids like Over Head Projectors, Multimedia Projectors etc. for effective teaching-learning process. In addition, acoustically designed auditorium & Lecture Halls with LCD projector facility to seat 120 persons are also available in the campus.

Hostel - Students are in close touch and guidance of the faculty and are able to use the library, Computer and other facilities better. Shobhit University provides Hostel accommodation to the majority of its students opting for the facility. The Boys' and Girls' Hostels are located in the campus. Hostel dining services provide good quality and nutritious food to students. Hostels also provide its residents an access to indoor and outdoor game facilities and recreational opportunities. The Campus Cafeteria is the place where students can not only satisfy their taste buds by savouring a variety of foods and beverages, but they can also sit and relax in a cosy environment after long academic sessions.

Sports and Recreation - Teams are sent to compete in various Inter-University tournaments. The students have shown exemplary results in various sports. Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess etc. are popular games and University Schools also participate and organize Inter and Intra School competitions for games, sports and other professional activities. An indoor stadium is available in the campus. These activities inculcate the healthy habits of sportsmanship and competitiveness among the students and help them to release their stress and learn the spirit of freedom, togetherness, discipline, leadership and self-control.

Medical Facilities  - The Campus takes care of immediate health needs of the students.  For students, first-aid facility is available on the Campus itself and in case of emergencies they are referred immediately to nearby hospitals and nursing homes. The student community very actively work on social issues.

Computing Services
- Shobhit University provides the best available support facilities to its students for quality learning and academic performance. The computer centres / labs are artistically and ergonomically designed, where students get an opportunity to develop their skills in time with the global needs and international standards.

Laboratories - The development of state-of-the-art infrastructure and technical facilities has been a continuous process at Shobhit University. The labs provide practical exposure of the subjects and give an opportunity to experiment what the students have learnt in theory. International Students - International Students in the university have a lively community from more than 15 countries. Qualifications are considered on a case by case basis. International students whose first language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5, with no less than 5.5 in any one element, or a TOEFL score of 573 (230 in the computer based TOEFL test) with no less than 4.5 in the test of written English. Students not having valid score under this category may join a nine months English as a Foreign Language Diploma program at the University Languages Resource Centre. After successful completion of the program they may join the regular professional programme.

NICE Green Group - One such effort, NICE Green Group, is a social welfare venture organized by the students. Social work such as tree plantation, conservation and preservation of natural resources, rural development programs in which some of the nearby villages are adopted, are some of the active programs of this group.

Corporate Resource Centre - It's facilities include:

  • Training - The University assists students in getting placed for their Summer Training in various corporate organizations, so as to fulfil their requisite curriculum requirements and get first hand real world exposure from the industry. The CRC is also gearing up to conduct training programmes to executives from the corporate sector.
  • Interfacing with Experts - Experts from academics, industry, social sector and government are frequently invited for close interaction with students. Seminars workshop, symposiums are arranged to keep the faculty and students abreast of the latest developments in the relevant area through discussions with other outside experts. Such activities help the faculty and students to update themselves and be aware of the problems and start thinking to get their solutions in real life situations.
  • Careers Advisory Service - CRC continuously updates the available database of employers and recruitment agencies. CRC gets in constant touch with the prospective recruiters and keep a regular correspondence with them to monitor the current trends and expectations in the job market.
  • Industrial Tours and Cultural Excursions - The Corporate Resource Centre caters to the practical needs of the students by organizing various industrial tours to leading industries in the region. This gives a much-desired exposure to students and they are also able to feel the pulse, which they shall require tomorrow when they actually become a part of any organization. Cultural tours and excursions are also organized for students where they get exposed to the cultural heritage of our country and get a live experience of life away from home & controlled environments.
  • Clubs & Societies - The Students' Welfare Centre of the University supports a number of clubs and societies. These range in nature from departmental clubs, cultural societies and social groups to sports and arts clubs.
  • Alumni Association - The Corporate Resource Centre also maintains the track record of the alumni. The old students are invited annually for an informal get-together, where they can share their thoughts, feelings and rich experiences of life with present students.
