About Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University - DRPCAU

Rajendra Agricultural University is one of the institutions of national importance. It provides education in Agricultural and allied sciences at different levels, viz; certificate, under graduate, postgraduate, research and PG Diploma. The foundation stone of the Agricultural Research Institute and college was laid by Lord curzon on the 1st of April, 1905. In 1908-09, the first batch of students, for Licentiates in Agriculture (L.Ag's) and university graduated in science were admitted. Pusa received an imperial status in 1918, being renamed as the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute (IARI). Devastation came with the great Bihar Earthquake in January,1934. As such the the imperial agricultural research institute (IARI) started functioning at its new home on sprawling areas north-west of new Delhi by the end of 1936. The agricultural college however materialized in the sixties as the Tirhut College of Agriculture, Dholi. By 1970 the Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU) had established itself at Pusa and became an important landmark in agricultural research & education in the eastern region of the country. RAU offers M.Sc. Degree in 34 disciplines and Ph.D. in 17 disciplines. At the time of establishment on 4 July 2003 it was known as Imperial Agriculture Research Institute.

Facilities

Hostels - The University has a Boy's Hospital with a capacity of 450 students and 1 University Girl's Hostel.

Directorate of Extension Education - The Directorate has been established to form a close linkage between the technology generation and technology dissemination units and establish linkages between State Department of Agriculture, University, ICAR and other Institutes. The Directorate of Extension Education has created a network of 29 Krishi Vigyan Kendras located in 29 districts spreading over all the three agro-climatic zones of the state. Training for field functionaries, farmers, unemployed youths, housewives and others are organized at two levels, at the University level and at Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The University level trainings are organized at its headquarter and other campuses of the University mainly to the field functionaries and subject matter specialists for updating the scientific knowledge and to improve the technical skill of the officers of different state line departments and NGOs. Support to agricultural extension is carried out mainly through organization of State/district level Kisan Melas; publication of Kisan Diary; publication of leaflets/pamphlets Radio/T.V. talks etc. Agricultural Technology Information Centre provides a mechanism beyond individual units of research institution in contributing towards the dissemination of information. This has served as a single window system with an objective to help the farmers and other stakeholders both to provide solutions to their problems and make available all technological information along with technology products for their transfer and use. Through this centre, the Directorate is serving farming community by providing the most important input i.e. knowledge input along with other inputs such as seeds of different high yielding varieties of various crops, graft & gooties of horticultural crops, fertilizers and publications of the University.

University Library - The University Library provides services to the students, teachers & researchers and supporting teaching, research and extension programmes of the University. It has 54000 Documents and subscribes to125 Indian Journals, 22 Foreign Journals and a collection of 22 CD ROM Databases. It also has the facility of OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue).

Reservation

Under graduate Programme

  • Seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, EBC, BC, RCG and other category of students as per directive issued by the Government of Bihar in this regard from time to time.
  • 85% seats of approved intake capacity of all the programmes shall be filled up through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination conducted by the State Government as per reservation policy of the State Govt. framed from time to time.
  • Rest 15% seats of the approved intake capacity of Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology, Fisheries and Home Science programme shall be made available to the ICAR and similarly 15% seats in Veterinary programme to the Veterinary Council of India for selection of students through All India Entrance Examination to be conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Veterinary Council of India respectively, keeping in view the reservation policy framed by the Govt. from time to time.
  • Selection of students on 15% quota made available to the ICAR and VCI shall be made on the criteria fixed by the ICAR and VCI respectively.
  • Selection of students on 85% seats through Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination shall be made on the criteria as laid down by the University from time to time.

Post graduate Programme

a) Subject to the eligibility criteria prescribed for admission to all the programmes of study, the following reservation of seat shall be made for the various categories of candidates.

  1. 75% of seats in each discipline the Master Degree Programme will remain reserved for the candidates who are resident/domicile of the State of Bihar. Remaining 25% seats will be filled up by the I.C.A.R. on the basis of their All India Entrance Examination.
  2. The Govt. of India nominee from foreign countries, from Indian Territories and the State (other than State of Bihar) as per arrangement between the ICAR, Education Ministry and the University.

b) Provided that nominees shall be accepted from only those States of India where no Agricultural University exists.

Further provided that those students who are eligible for appearing in the Competitive Test conducted by the University shall not be accepted through nominations.

c) University in-service candidates and State Department nominees for Master’s Degree and Ph.D. Degree programme shall not exceed 5% and 10% of the total sanctioned strength of the supporting staff and Faculty embers.

d) Reservation for Scheduled Caste/Tribes/EBC, BC & RCG:- As per Government rules framed from time to time.

e) Additional seats up to a maximum of two seats for ICAR/CSIR or other National Agencies fellowship/stipend holders may be created in any subject with discretion of the Vice-Chancellor, provided the candidate fulfils minimum eligibility criteria for admission.

Testing & Certification of Agricultural Machines
- The University provides Testing & Certification of Agricultural Machines to help the farmers as well as manufacturers by creating a FIM (Farmer, institution and manufacturer) chain management leading to a win-to-win situation for all partners. Under this management chain, scientists are supposed to provide knowledge input to the manufacturers in the process of upgrading their machines as per need of the farmers. Manufacturers are expected to make quality machines by incorporating suggestions of scientists provided under test report and the farmers being the last link of the chain are required to purchase quality machines as per their need. The Rajendra Agricultural University, Bihar, Pusa (Samastipur) has therefore fixed fee for operational testing of different machines vide Office Order No. 152/CAE, Pusa dated 12.10.2009. The Department of Farm Machinery has provided opportunity of getting their machines tested, to all manufacturers/ farmers of Bihar and outside. Test fee The test fee of agricultural machines and guidelines for application for testing is mentioned as under the Office order No. 152/CAE, Pusa dated 12.10.2009 is annexed. The facility of testing of agricultural machines by the Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa is open for all (manufacturers, farmers or institutions). The Department of Farm Machinery feels pleasure to contribute for the cause of people by providing reliable test report prepared upon testing of supplied machines.
