About Sanchi University of Buddhist - Indic Studies

Sanchi University of Buddhist - Indic Studies (SUBIS) is a Private University established to promote study and research in Buddhist and Indic Studies including the principles of Dhamma, a foundational tenet of Indian culture and to facilitate the cross-pollination of ideas and foster harmony amongst different civilizations of the world. SUBIS was established at Sanchi (Madhya Pradesh) on 21 September 2012 but was formally opened in April 2014. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and the chairman of the General Council, is the brain behind the university. Governor of Madhya Pradesh is the Visitor of University. The university has been planned to be setup very near Sanchi, as it is a world heritage site, famous pilgrimage centre for the Buddhist pilgrims, and famous for the stupa and ancient relics of Lord Buddha. The stupas and monasteries of Sanchi were the hub of a thriving community of Buddhist monks from the 3rd century BC onwards. The University has been allocated 100 acres of land, which is a hillock on the Bhopal-Sanchi highway not far from the tropic of cancer. The Madhya Pradesh Government has allotted an additional 20 acres land Sanchi University. Foreign countries can open their schools or centres on this land. They have to bear all the expenses; on land provided by Sanchi University. The University will be about open and flexible learning. The teaching method will range from Socratic Method to modern e-learning; however primary focus will be on “Nalanda Method” virtually the entire range of world knowledge then available. Courses were drawn from every field of learning, Buddhist and Hindu, sacred and secular, foreign and native. Sanchi University of Buddhist - Indic Studies has the aims to promote interaction amongst countries of Asia bound by strong historical commonalities of knowledge in areas such as religion, philosophy and culture.

Facilities at SUBIS

Hostels - Accommodation is available for the candidates at Sanchi University Academic Campus at Barla (12 km from Sanchi Stupa) in District Raisen. Mess facility is also available on payment.

Library - Sanchi University library aims to become the best and the largest reference and research library in the world in the area of Buddhist and Indic studies.

SUMG - The University has formed a mentor group called the Sanchi University Mentor Group (SUMG). The mentor group is a selected group of internationally renowned academicians. These members are working on no-profit basis. The mentor group also seeks help from other selected subject matter experts, in advisory capacity. It shall deliberate, brainstorm and mull over all the aspects of the University and eventually churn out a conceptual framework and within the framework of the enactment evolve a strategy to put various ideas into practice.

Guest House – The Guest house of the University Campus has 20 well furnished rooms with attached bathrooms having geyser facility. Each room has double occupancy with DTH facility. Rooms of the guest house are allotted to the VIP persons visiting the University. It is surrounded by trees and on its left is the mess, situated 100 meters away. On the right of the guest house are the residential blocks which are 200 meters away from the guest house facility.
