About Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University

Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU) was carved out of Gujarat Agricultural University. Earlier it was a Campus of the Gujrat Agricultural University based at Sardar Krushinagar. SDAU is one of the 4 Universities which were formed out of the Gujarat Agricultural University. Government of Gujarat repealed Gujarat Agricultural University act 1969 (Gujarat Act.No.13 of 1969) and promulgated Gujarat Agricultural Universities Act, 2004 (Guj.Act No.5 of 2004). Accordingly 4 Agricultural Universities were carved out from erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University with effect from 1st May 2004 SDAU. The Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University is devoted for location specific agricultural research. As such the mandate of the SDAU , Sardarkrushinagar is confined to six districts viz., Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha and Kutch of North Gujarat predominantly encompassing arid and semi arid climate.

Location - The University is located at Sardarkrushinagar, the main Campus of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University. Sardarkrushinagar campus is located 27 kms. away from Palanpur.

Transportation - Palanpur is the district headquarter of Banaskantha and a broad gauge railway junction on Ahmedabad-Abu road- Delhi railway tract. It is also well connected through state transport bus services. Transport facility from Palanpur to Sardarkrushinagar is provided through a fleet of University buses.

Facilities

Hostel Accommodation - Staying in hostel is compulsory for a student except when permitted by the concerned Principal under exceptional circumstances. Hostel facility is available at constituent colleges, for which student will have to apply for accommodation in the hostel. Students admitted in the hostel will be provided with a set of furniture.

Library - The Library functions from 8:00 hrs to 19:00 hrs with a total surface area of 3238.90 sq. mt. having reading room facilities and carpet area of stack room of 936.85  sq. mt. and 545.14 sq. mt., respectively.

Library Facilities

  • It has a collection of 45600 Books, 4150 Back Volumes, 5650 Theses, 5440 Research Reports, 200 CLIBRacks Encyclopedia, 225 Scientific Journals, 280 Periodicals and 71 number of CD-ROM Data.
  • The Library has subscribes to 225 online journals of Springer and Blackwell Publications.
  • Gujarat State Wide Area Network (GSWAN) is state owned internet facility, tower of which has been constructed right at the library to ensure better internet connectivity and after connectivity to sub centres by GSWAN. It is contemplated to extend the facilities available in library to sub centres of SDAU also.
  • The Library has computer laboratory with a capacity of 15 clients besides other 25 computers with connectivity and 14 cubical rooms.
  • India stat site provides statistical information on and about India through Internet for which the library has acquired its own user name and password AGRICOLA: Database for Agriculture, Veterinary and Home science are subscribed.

Scholarships - Various Scholarships from State and Central Government Backward Class Scholarships, Freeships, Loan, Funds, Merit Scholarships, I.C.A.R. Merit Scholarships. P.P.I.C. Scholarship for M.Sc. (Agri.) or Ph.D. and Bombay Gow Rakshak Mandli Scholarship for Veterinary, etc. are available. Details of Scholarships are announced by the Principal of the concerned college from time to time.

University Bus Service - Bus service between Sardarkrushinagar -Palanpur-Deesa is provided by the University. The transport facility is also provided for training, demonstration, farm visits to the students, farmers, scientists and visitors. The University students who are not provided with the Hostel facility are also commute through the university buses as there is no  alternative other than university transport. The university staff and family members are charged at concession rates for travelling.
