CBSE student s to get a Minimum of 25% Marks in Summative Assessment

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed that from the current academic session, the students of IX and X will not only have to appear for both the summative assessments (SA), but they will also be required to secure a minimum of 25% marks SAs taken together, if they want to qualify the final examination.

Now on students will have score a combined minimum marks of 25% in SA 1 and SA 2, i.e., 15 marks out of a total of 60 marks and a total of at least 33% in each of the five subjects of scholastic area.

Earlier, students had to score a minimum of 33% marks in the complete assessment that comprises four formative assessments and two SAs, in order to pass the subsequent classes. There was no minimum passing mark set for the SAs.

Earlier this year, the executive committee of the Board decided it would be mandatory for students of classes IX and X to appear in both the SAs. In case of absence in SA1 due to illness, the students will get an additional chance to appear by October 31 and in case of non-appearance in SA 2, a student need to take the exam within a period of one month from the date of result declaration.

However, the board allowed exemption from appearing in any one of the SA to students participate actively in sports at international or national level subject to prior approval.

As revealed by Vineet Joshi, the chairman of CBSE, the changes has been incorporated in the CCE scheme based on the feedback received from schools, students and parents.
