Can a Physically Handicapped person become an IPS officer?

Email

Que. I lost one of my hand in an accident some year ago, Can I become an IPS officer as I have a very good academic record.

As IPS officer's job involve high degree of physical work and handling weapon to maintain law and order thus physical deformity of any kind can hamper the efficiency. It may not be good for the Officer as well as the services. Taking this into consideration UPSC rules do not allow Physically Handicapped person to join IPS. However you can opt for IAS as these involve mostly administrative work.
