About National Institute of Technology - NIT Arunachal Pradesh

National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh (NITAP) is a Deemed University established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2010 according to the NIT Act, 2007. NIT AP is a member of a group of ten NITs which were to be established as centres of excellence in technical education. These have been established to combat the growing need of technological professionals in India as well as in the World. Also known as NIT Arunachal Pradesh, it is one amongst the 30 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance. NIT, AP follows the semester system with continuous evaluation and the results are calculated on the basis of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) format with 10 point grading system rather than normal percentage system. As part of the academic curriculum NIT has started in-house projects for the students from second year onwards followed by summer internship programme after the sixth semester and research paper communication in the eight semesters. Also, each semester has one industrial course which is partly covered by industrial experts. The students have the opportunity to take up Elective as well as Audit courses in addition to their core courses. Humanities and Management Science courses are made compulsory to broaden their scope of knowledge.

The campus of NIT, AP is temporarily housed in Yupia, the headquarter of the Papum Pare District of Arunachal Pradesh. Yupia is around 18 kms. from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, and is about 11 kms. from Naharlagun, which is the twin capital town. The permanent campus of NIT, AP is to be situated at Jote, Papum Pare District, Arunachal Pradesh.

  • Rising Sun – It indirectly depicts that this institute will produce new emerging talents. The sun also reminds that Arunachal Pradesh is known as “land of rising sun” in India.
  • Pen Tip - A pen tip in sun signifies the importance of education.
  • Open Book – It symbolises that the institute will work for academic betterment of students through help of books and produce assets for the country.
  • Two Figures in Book – They indicate that the institute will motivate students to reach sky and come out with flying colours
  • Two Branches - The two branches of leaves signify the natural beauty of states and focuses on the fact that institute will always try to conserve natural beauty in the present world of modernisation.
  • Hornbill - It glorifies the state bird and almost extinct species in India, hence glorifying state’s natural beauty and at the same time creates awareness about conservation of rare species.
  • Outer Shape - The outer circular ring is depictive of the world we are living in and indirectly tells that institute will glorify its name with time.
  • Atomic Symbols – The criss-crossing rings with a dot in it symbolise atomic power and tells us that institute’s Moto will be development in field of science.
  • Continuous Projections - The continuous projections above the circle remind us of the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is surrounded by mountain ranges, again glorifying its natural beauty and indirectly relates it with engineering tools

Transportation

Rail Link - The nearest railway station is Naharlagun, which is around 3 kms. from Yupia. Another nearest railway station is at Guwahati. The journey from Guwahati to Yupia takes about 10 hours. Car/bus services are available from Guwahati to Naharlagun. Taxi for Yupia is also available at Naharlagun City or Naharlagun Railway Station.

Road Link - Naharlagun is at a distance of 370 kms. from Guwahati. Day and Night bus services are available from Guwahati to Naharlagun from where taxi can be availed to reach Yupia.

Air Link - The nearest Airport is Lilabari (North Lakhimpur) in Assam, which is around 50 km and nearest helipad is at Naharlagun. Daily helicopter services are available between Guwahati and Naharlagun except on Sundays. The flight services for Lilabari Airport is available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Facilities

Hostels - The Institute has separate residential facilities for the male and female students. There are 6 halls of residence in total; four of them are for boys and two for girls. The hostels are named after the national symbols of India. The newly admitted students are kept in separate hostels away from senior students so as to avoid ragging. The students are allowed to use their personal computers in their respective rooms. Internet facilities are also provided to every student.

Central Library – It has a collection of around 12,000 text and reference books, periodicals and electronic resources. The Central Library also has a wide range of professional e -journals like IEL Online, MathSciNet, Nature, Springer Link, ACM Digital Library & Science Direct and also printed journals like CSIR, IETE, IE(I), IEEE & journals of IUP publications.

Language Laboratory – Station-e Language Laboratory with seating capacity of 32, provides conceptualized customized training program based on the latest technological tools and the most advanced training methodology to impart simplified and effortless learning of English

Bus Facility - There is bus facility for the students to reach the university. It not only facilitates the students but also the staff members and visiting guests. The buses serve as the link between the campus and the city.

Solar Plant - The institute has installed planted a solar plant whose capacity 100KW. The plant allows uninterrupted power supply and saves on electricity bill.

Computer Centre – It facilitates various activities, inclusive of practical’s, communication, research and various other purposes. There are about 30 PCs here.

Mess - There is a central mess from which the meals are provided to every hostel. The mess provides both vegetarian a well as non-vegetarian food. The mess is looked after by the Hostel Provost.

Canteen - The canteen provides quality hygienic food at a reasonable price. It is capable of catering the demands of the students and can accommodate 30 persons at a time.

Switch Room – It enables connecting of the local area networks and is facilitated with Cyber Roam: CR 1000 ia, Cisco Router: 2900 series etc.

Training and Placement Cell - It is well-equipped with infrastructure in arranging Pre-Placement Talks, Written Tests, Group Discussions, and Interviews etc. as per the requirements of the Organizations.

Sports – A cricket field, football field, tennis court and volley ball court exists in the hostel campus, apart from a host of other facilities for indoor games like badminton, table tennis, carom etc.

Seminar Hall – It facilitates workshops of all streams thereby providing students an interface for practical and expertise knowledge. Apart from this, motivational and inspirational lectures from Director of NITAP are held to flourish every student’s innovative ideas by discussing them. Interactive lectures from the faculty members are also held in here.

Seminars and Workshops - Students and Faculty members of NIT-Arunachal Pradesh organise many events and activities, like North Eastern Regional Science Congress, National Student’s Essay Competition, Self Workshop from Spoken Tutorial etc.

Auditorium - The institute has a fully air conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 80 for conducting various activities. A few syndicate rooms are available for small group discussions on various issues.

Extra-curricular Activities – The institute organises various extra-curricular activities for the overall development of the students, like literary events, dramatic competitions, art and quiz contests etc.

Some of the activities which the institute organises are:

  • Youth Follie – It is the cultural festival of the Institute organized every year
  • Addovedi – It is the technical festival of the Institute and in it a wide array of activities organised like competitions, workshops, lectures and demos
