UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2018 concluded

The Union Public Service Commission conducted the Civil Services Prelims 2018 on June 3. Approximately 3 lakh candidates appeared for the most coveted exam of India at various test centres across the nation.

The unofficial answer keys of the preliminary examination have been released by the Chanakya IAS Academy.

The UPSC conducts the civil services examination for recruitment to:

  • The Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
  • Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
  • Indian Police Service (IPS) and other central services and posts

in accordance with the rules published by the Department of Personnel and Training in the Gazette of India.

Selection Procedure:
UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE), popularly known as IAS (Indian Administrative Service) exam, in two phases namely- UPSC Prelims and UPSC Mains.

The prelims exam comprises objective-type questions, whereas the questions asked in mains need descriptive and essay-type answering.

Paper Pattern:

  • The preliminary examination consisted of two papers of objective types (multiple type questions) and carries a maximum of 400 marks in the subjects set out in subsection (A) of section II
  • The General Studies Paper-II was a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
  • The question papers were set in both Hindi and English
  • The duration of each paper was two hours.
