The Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) Scheme for SC and ST is formulated and funded by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The scheme is open to candidates who belong to SC & ST who wish to pursue higher studies such as regular and full time MPhil and PhD degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Engineering & Technology.
University Grants Commission (UGC) invites application from eligible SC/ ST candidates for this fellowship which will cover all Universities/ Institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & section 3 of the UGC Act. However candidates should note that this fellowship would be available to only those SC/ST candidates who desire to pursue research without JRF of UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET.

Eligibility Criteria
SC/ST Candidates who have passed the Post Graduate examination in concerned subject.
Selection Procedure:
The selections will be based on the basis of merit. The candidate however needs to get himself/herself registered for M Phil/ PhD at the first available prospect. However the candidate should not delay it beyond a period of two years from the receipt of award letter as it is not extendable. The actual payment of fellowship will be made with effect from the date of approval of fellowship or date of joining whichever is later.
