M.Phil. Library & Information Science or Master of Philosophy in Library & Information Science is a postgraduate Library Science course. In this course, the main emphasis is given on Library & Information Sciences. Firstly, Library science (or Library & Information science) that is an interdisciplinary field that applies the practices, perspectives, and tools of management, information technology, education, and other areas to libraries; the collection, organization, preservation, and dissemination of information resources; and the political economy of information. The duration of M.Phil. (Library & Information Science) is mostly of two academic years but it may vary as per the rules and regulations of different institutions.

M.Phil. Library & Information Science Eligibility

  • Aspiring students should have passed a master's degree in science, arts or engineering, etc.
  • Candidates need to acquire 55% marks in the subject chosen for M.Phil. course or an allied subject at the postgraduate level to be considered eligible for the course.
  • A written test may be conducted to assess the candidate’s knowledge. Those who qualify in the written test will be required to appear in an interview.
  • The admission procedure and mode of selection for admission to Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) through distance learning, however, may vary from one Institute to another.
