M.Phil. Music or Master of Philosophy in Music is a postgraduate Music course. During the course, the main emphasis is given on Music and its related aspects. It is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The duration of M.Phil. (Music) is mostly of two academic years but it may vary as per the rules and regulations of different institutions. The course may also be offered by some certain institutes on a correspondence basis as well. M.Phil. (Music) course is a job orienting one and opens a lot of career scopes for candidates in this field.

M.Phil. Music Eligibility

  • The minimum requirement is a Master's degree.
  • Candidates need to acquire 55% marks in the subject chosen for M.Phil. course or an allied subject at the postgraduate level to be considered eligible for the course.
  • A written test may be conducted to assess the candidate’s knowledge. Those who qualify in the written test will be required to appear in an interview.
  • The admission procedure and mode of selection for admission to Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) through distance learning, however, may vary from one Institute to another.
