Its mission is to train a new generation of basic and clinician investigators who will have a broad understanding of cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine and biology and who will be able to apply cutting-edge technology to clinically relevant questions.

As such a cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapist must have an in depth knowledge of the cardiovascular and pulmonary implications of diseases affecting these systems in the body. They also play a large role in promoting wellness to a population at risk of developing various comorbidities as a result of lifestyle choices. Therapists also work with a multidisciplinary team to assist in diagnosis of conditions relating to the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems and have an understanding of prognosis of various conditions and diseases.
