M.S. Anaesthesiology or Master of Surgery in Anaesthesiology is a postgraduate Anaesthesia course. Anaesthesiology focuses on utilization of drugs that minimize pain by causing insensibility. Under this degree, students learn about areas such as ambulatory anaesthesia, cardiothoracic anaesthesiology, paediatric anaesthesiology, neuro-anesthesia, obstetrical anaesthesiology and pain management. Anaesthesia controls pain during surgery or other medical procedures. It includes using medicines, and sometimes closes monitoring, to keep you comfortable. It can also help control breathing, blood pressure, blood flow, and heart rate and rhythm when needed. Some of the types of Anaesthesia are local anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia and general anaesthesia. The course duration is two years, but it may depend on institutes and may be less than or more than two years and it is career orienting in nature that opens many job opportunities for them.

Principles of airway management: Anatomy, Manoeuvres used for airway management, Devices used in airway management (Basic): Oro and nasopharyngeal airways, Laryngoscopes, Endotracheal tubes, Supraglottic devices: LMA: Classic, Proseal, Igel Manual Resuscitators (AMBU bags).

Latest / Recent guidelines of cardiopulmonary resuscitation Evaluation of patients in relation to surgical and anesthetic risk. Appropriate preoperative preparation of patients subjected to surgery and anesthesia. Introducing the students to various techniques of anaesthesiology: Conduct of General Anaesthesia. Techniques of Regional anesthesia - Central neuraxial blockades (Subarachnoid blockade, Epidural anesthesia, Caudal epidural).

Perioperative care of the surgical patient: Perioperative monitoring standards, Perioperative hemodynamic alterations, Perioperative Pulmonary complications, Recovery criteria, Acute pain management modalities.

Equipment and drugs used in resuscitation: Appropriate usage of IV cannulas, Fluids used during resuscitation, Defibrillators, Drugs used during resuscitation - Vasopressors, Vasodilators, Antiarrhythmic agents. Oxygen therapy.
