ASIAN SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN INNOVATIONS (ASADI) is a design school that aims to promote freedom in education, which is reflected in its name. In certain regions, including the Indian Sub-Continent, "ASADI" means "Freedom." The institution strives to create an environment that is free of preconceived notions and beliefs, allowing students to express their own philosophy and develop their ability to think independently. These principles align with the National Education Policy 2020. ASADI aims to produce architects and designers who will contribute to the betterment of society in the future. The institution's core value is to train competent professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact on society and who can compete globally. ASADI prepares students for an inspiring, engaging, and productive career, allowing them to become leaders in the field of design and planning.
ASADI is an institution focused on social and environmental improvement, established by ABR Foundation, a Charitable Trust. The school is led by Senior Architect Prof. B.R. Ajit, who heads Ajit Associates, a prominent architectural and design consulting firm in South India, recognized for their excellence in the field for over 47 years.
ASADI started in the year 2013 with 5 year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) course. Now ASADI offers 2 year M.Arch, 5 year B.Arch and 1 year Diploma in Interior Design also. ASADI is situated in the heart of Kochi city, in the Silver sand island at Vyttila, near Thykoodam metro station, Ernakulam, Kerala, India
People often ask me why I decided to start a School of Architecture at this point in my life, when my architectural practice is thriving. They question the feasibility of starting a school with a small number of students and many planned facilities. I understand that starting this school late in my life may not result in the financial returns people expect from such a venture. So why did I embark on this project? The answer is simple: to create a new generation of architects who are committed to addressing societal needs, sustainability, and responsible environmental practices, especially for those who currently have no homes other than the sky.
I've been thinking about this goal since I completed my architectural studies. I've watched and experienced the output of young architects from most schools in our country, and I wonder if our current educational system prepares students to become socially responsible architects. Are we simply teaching them to earn degrees and make a living, or are we instilling in them an awareness and responsibility towards society and the environment?
I believe that education and learning are not just for living but for life. ASADI aims to provide a new approach to architectural education, focusing on producing graduates who are responsible architects committed to doing good for society. We have incorporated various innovative methodologies in architectural education, such as integrating verticals and horizontals from the first year, adopting the Gurukul system of education, learning from masters, enhancing students' innate creativity, hands-on training, and more.
So, I invite you to be a part of this new philosophy, this new initiative, and this noble thought for a better world. Let's work together to create a new breed of architects who are social scientists, deeply concerned about our environment, and capable of changing the way the world thinks and behaves.
