SARV HITKARI EDUCATION SOCIETY

The SARV HITKARI EDUCATION SOCIETY was started for uplifting the status of technical education in the remote areas of the country. In order to achieve these goals, modern teaching aids are used in the college. Special emphasis is laid on theoretical as well as practical knowledge for preparing the students to face the new challenges in the field of Engineering.

Institute Infrastructure

Academic Block

The pride of the institute greets the visitors with its majestic stature. It houses a large number of well-furnished and well-ventilated lecture halls, tutorial rooms and drawing halls. The college has a number of seminar halls with modern audio- video and projection facilities and well equipped laboratories.

The science and some of the engineering labs are located in the Academic Block and have latest equipment. Additional equipment is continuously purchased for lab upgradation and for the practical knowledge needed to reinforce academic learning. The students are advised to make full use of the laboratory facilities as and when possible, in addition to the prescribed timings. The Block also houses common rooms, separate for boys and girls, to spend their free time.

Philosophy

CEM will achieve its mission through optimum utilization of its financial and intellectual resource base by reacting positively to its diverse student community in a professional environment involving both faculty and staff.

The Quality Emphasis

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) created the Quality Management System (QMS) standards in 1987. They were the ISO 9000:1987 series of standards The last major revision was in the year 2008 and the series was called ISO 9000:2000 series. The ISO 9002 and 9003 standards were integrated into one single certifiable standard: ISO 9001:2008. After December 2003, organizations holding ISO 9002 or 9003 standards had to complete a transition to the new standard.

The Quality Management System standards created by ISO are meant to certify the processes and the system of an organization, not the product or service any improvement (change) takes time to implement, gain acceptance and stabilize as accepted practice. Improvement must allow pauses between implementing new changes so that the change is stabilized and assessed as a real improvement, before the next improvement is made (hence continual improvement, not continuous improvement).

Simple one is Process Approach, which forms the basis of ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System standards, duly driven from the 'Eight principles of Quality management', process approach being one of them. Thareja [7] writes about the mechanism and benefits: "The process (proficiency) may be limited in words, but not in its applicability. While it fulfills the criteria of all-round gains: in terms of the competencies augmented by the participants; the organization seeks newer directions to the business success, the individual brand image of both the people and the organization, in turn, goes up. CEM is in process to be NBA accredited in the near future and working towards to achieve its compliance.

Training & Placement

The Training & Placement Office at CEM, Kapurthala facilitates the process of placement of students passing out from the Institute besides collaborating with leading organizations and institutes in setting up of internship and training program of students.

The office liaises with various industrial establishments, corporate houses etc which conduct campus interviews and select graduate students from all disciplines. The Training & Placement Office provides the infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews besides catering to other logistics. The Office interacts with many industries in the country, of which nearly 200 companies visit the campus for holding campus interviews. The industries which approach the institute come under the purview of:

  • Core engineering industries
  • IT & IT enabled services
  • Manufacturing Industries
  • Consultancy Firms
  • Finance Companies
  • Management Organizations

R & D laboratories

The placement season runs through the course of the year commencing the last week of July through to March. Pre-Placement Talks are also conducted in this regard as per mutual convenience. Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. are announced through the Training & Placement Office.

The Placement Office is assisted by a committee comprising representatives of students from the engineering streams. The committee evolves a broad policy framework every year besides a set of rules which are inviolable. Student’s members are closely co-opted in implementing these policy decisions.

Faculty

Dedicated, devoted and experienced faculty in CEM makes the learning experience enjoyable and very fruitful. Headed by an academician having over 40 years of experience, our faculty never loses its way around the corridors of education, knowledge and discipline. The faculty in the Institute is highly qualified, experienced and dedicated. Quite a good number of them hold a Ph.D. degree and most of the other faculty members are M.Tech. or pursing Ph. D.

The noble but laborious cause of molding future of the students into bright alley of progress and prosperity keeps every teacher up on his or her feet, just like their students. After all, hard work and discipline is not only the concern of a student, the faculty fully comprehends their role in shaping the students’ career. The teachers’ commitment boosts the student’s enthusiasm enabling them to exploit their potential and energy so as to face the competitive world.

Maintaining excellent staff and having continual staff development CEM places primary emphasis on teaching excellence. CEM will have the right teaching staff in terms of numbers, skills, training and experience. Staff development at CEM will be given due importance. Academic staff development will be a two-fold exercise:

  • To ensure new teaching styles are being introduced, and
  • To encourage academic staff to constantly update their knowledge of the subject
