The T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) located in the international university town of Manipal (Karnataka), is among the leading management institutes in India, and is reputed for its academic rigour and faculty-student interaction. Founded by the visionary, Late Shri. Late Shri Tonse Ananth Pai, TAPMI’s mission is to provide much needed impetus to the task of building professional management capability in the country. In the process, it has also played a role in strengthening the existing educational and health infrastructure of Manipal. It was founded in 1984 and over the years, the institute has earned a name for its Post Graduate Programme in Management (equivalent to an MBA) and the quality of student talent it has produced. Continuous improvements in the curriculum, structure, academic systems and faculty resources have contributed significantly to making TAPMI a preferred centre for management education. Today, over 1900 TAPMI alumni hold responsible managerial positions in India and abroad. In early 2009, its 25th year running, TAPMI took a landmark step in its history by shifting its operations to a new scenic 42-acre residential campus in Manipal. The new facility, which was developed at a cost of about Rs. 60 crores (US $ 12 million) includes a built up area of 2,50,000 sq. ft. to house modern, state-of-the-art, Wi-Fi-enabled, air-conditioned classrooms for students, plush offices for faculty and staff, a knowledge centre, a computer centre, a student’s centre, hostels for men and women, and residences for faculty and staff. The student’s centre is home to a canteen, a gym, a yoga and meditation room, an mini open-air theatre and a convenience store. TAPMI is now one among the few B-schools in India to have an exclusive campus.
Location - TAPMI is located in Manipal near the town of Udupi.
Transportation - Udupi is nearest railway station (2 km) on Mumbai - Mangalore Konkan railway route. The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport at Bajpe which is about 60 km from TAPMI.
Facilities
Classrooms - TAPMI’s new facility has several classrooms with seating capacities ranging from 60 students to 90 students. The classrooms are all air conditioned and specially designed for interactive participation, with executive-style seating and furniture. Although the entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled, each desk is also equipped with a LAN port for cable-enabled internet access. Each classroom is also equipped with equipment for projection facilities to enable presentations, and video-based and audio-based sessions. Some of the classrooms also provide video-conferencing facilities. Classroom space at the TAPMI’s campus is adequate for not only the PGDM program, but also sufficient to accommodate several simultaneous training and executive education programs, when required.
Hostels - TAPMI’s new campus has two hostels for men and one for women. The hostels have been designed keeping in mind the students’ requirements for rigorous study accompanied by soothing relaxation. Each room has an attached bathroom and 24-hour hot water facility supported by solar heating. All the hostels have lifts, back-up power and Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. The hostels for men have 55 double rooms and 50 single rooms each, while the hostel for women has 50 double and 45 single rooms. The capacities of the hostels are adequate for accommodating the students and a few rooms have also been converted to accommodate guests. Library - The library is housed in a spacious section of 6,000 sq. ft. with a seating capacity for over 100 users at a time. It has a rich collection of about 28,830 well-chosen books on all functional areas of management and related subjects. The Periodical subscription includes around 200 Indian, 125 International journals and 12 business & general newspapers, 2,800 bound volumes of Business Journals are available in the library. Reputed and internationally acclaimed electronic databases such as EBSCO, CMIE, Encyclopaedia Britannica, and CIER's index of companies are provided in the library.

ICT infrastructure - Information and Communication Technology facilities comprise of high quality hardware, software and communication systems. The institute provides high end laptops of industry standard configuration to students and faculty, along with LAN connections (both wired and wireless), in addition to 24/7 Internet connectivity. These computers are networked via high-end blade servers and managed switches. Two ISPs together deliver a total bandwidth of 4 MBPS (1:1); this bandwidth ably supports the various services offered such as email, browsing, access to vital databases (online as well as in-LAN), and several other resources on the institute's intranet. The institute has put in place Video-Conferencing facilities at its Manipal as well as Bangalore (TAPMI-CEE) centres – both IP-based and via ISDN. These facilities are used for class room functioning, group meetings, and virtual and interactive lectures and discussions. Facilities such as laser printers, DVD writers and scanners are also available for peripheral support. The institute’s two Computer Centre labs, a systems lab, a digital library, ten class rooms with full ICT support, three hostel blocks having LAN connected PCs, amply enrich its academic machinery. Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) equipment and two diesel generators provide electric power in the event of power failure.

Canteen / Mess - A bright, spacious hall overlooking the valley houses, TAPMI’s new canteen and mess which provides students, faculty and staff with nutritious food for the body and the mind. The canteen counter is open from 8 am to 9:30 pm daily and provides a variety of snacks and refreshments at nominal prices. The mess, primarily catering to the students in residence, operates at fixed timings. The canteen and mess are located in the Student Center.
Continuous Learning Programmes - TAPMI is actively involved with a large number of business organisations to provide continuous learning and education to their executives through well-designed customised programmes. These programmes are conducted at TAPMI, Manipal or TAPMI CEE Bangalore or at the client's location. Brandscan - It is India's largest annual market research fair, organized by the students of T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal. It is the biggest and most colourful event in the whole of Manipal. Being conducted for the past 16 years, the two-day event attracts the desired target-segment by organizing a gala fair. Brandscan has a unique way of eliciting unbiased and natural responses through the use of disguised games and has successfully completed over 175 projects. Paroksha - The Journal of Case Research is published bi-annually by T. A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal. The journal is primarily intended to provide (i) high quality cases to academicians, trainers and researchers in the field of Management and (ii) the opportunity to publish and share knowledge about case-writing, case-research and case-pedagogy in learning and impartation.
OMEGA - Organization for Managerial Entrepreneurial Guidance and Assistance is a Students Consulting Wing. OMEGA can take the credit for supporting / partnering with small and medium scale enterprises, small traders who are in and around Manipal, Udupi and Mangalore in enabling them to strive towards excellence in their business. Entrepreneurs approach OMEGA with their problems or projects and OMEGAns (Student Members) solve their problem or help them in growing their business. MGM Forum - The Marketing and General Management Forum (MGM) at TAPMI, distinguishes itself with the frequency and wide variety of marketing related events it organizes every year. Achievements
AIMS Award - TAPMI was selected by the Association of Indian Management Scholars (AIMS) International to receive the AIMS International Appreciation Award for the year 2009.
Ranking - In a survey carried out by the Business and Economy magazine in collaboration with ICMR, New Delhi, that saw the participation of thirty leading Indian Business Schools including the IIMs, the ISB, JBIMS, SP Jain, XLRI, IIFT, MDI, IMI, GLIM and NITIE, TAPMI was ranked No. 17. The results were published in the December 10th 2009 issue of the Business & Economy as the Dec 7th issue of the Sunday Indian. Indian Management, the journal of AIMA, New Delhi, ranked TAPMI in the category of A2 in its October 2009 special issue on its Survey of Best B-Schools with an overall score of 85/100.
Dewang Mehta Business School Award - In the 17th Business School Affaire and Dewang Mehta Award ceremony, held at Mumbai on Nov. 5, 2009, TAPMI was adjudged as one of the best 5 business schools in the country (including IIMs) with the best Marketing curriculum.
NAAC and NBA Accreditation - TAPMI is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with Five Stars and by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with 'A' rating.
Recognition - TAPMI is recognised as a Research Centre for Doctoral Programmes in Management by Karnataka University, Dharwar and Manipal University.
