A.V.C. College of Engineering was started in the year 1996. It was the efforts of Sri S. Ramalingam Pillai which laid the foundation of the College when he established A.V. Charities in 1806 in memory of his beloved son, Thiru Velayutham Pillai. A.V. Charities began its educational services by starting the A.V.C. (Autonomous) college in 1955, extended their horizon to A.V.C Polytechnic in 1983 and in 1996 by opening the Engineering College. It is a pioneer Institution and first self financing College in Nagapattinam District. It is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and has the distinction of acquiring ISO 9001:2008 certificate. The College is committed to social welfare aiming for the development of people with rural background. It has state-of-the-art Laboratories and facilities to offer scientific research and need based training to meet the global needs of the industry. The A.V.C.C.E. campus encompasses MBA Block, ICE Block, IT Block, Library Block, ECE Block, Hydralics Lab, Basic Workshop , SM Lab, Mechanical Block, Thermal Lab, CSE Block, MCA Block, Administrative Block, Students rest room, Multi-purpose gymnasium, Estate Office, Seminar Hall, Science And Humanities Block, Software Block, Canteen, Hostel and Bank.

Facilities
Hostel - The College has exclusive Hostel for men and women, located inside the campus. These are equipped with modern facilities.The inmates are trained physically and mentally through Gym and Yoga.
Library - The Library is well equipped with a great number of books, national and international journals. For effective Teaching learning process the Library is maintaining a special section which is incorporated with Educational CD’s and DVD’s in fields of Engineering, Management and Science and Humanities. The Library functions from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all working days. Open access system is adopted to avail the maximum utilization of the Library resources. To benefit the students, Library Hour is included in the Regular Time Table, which help them in utilizing the library more effectively. Library transactions are maintained by Integrated Library Management Software package with Bar-coding provisions. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility is available to save the access time of the users. The Libray is the member of IEEE, IEI, ASME, ACM, ISTE, CSI and DELNET.

Physical Education - Twenty acres of land is earmarked for outdoor games with all facilities for foot ball, hockey, cricket, volley ball, hand ball, basket ball, kho-kho, kabaddi and running track. In addition the indoor-games caters to the needs of the students with multi-purpose gymnasium, table tennis, badminton, chess, carom etc.
Medical Facilities - Full time Medical Officers take care of the Medical needs of the inmates of the campus.
Canteen - A Canteen is run by the college Management, for the convenience of the students and the staff of the college with a view to provide quality food and snacks at lowest cost.
STD Booth and Coin Box - STD Booth and Coin box facilities has been installed for the students convenience.
Conveyance Facility - The College is located 5 km from the Mayiladuthurai, in the Tranquebar high way. Buses are operated from different places for the convenient of the students and staff.
Sports - The College has a total area of play ground covering about 7 Acres.

ISTE - Indian Society for Technical Education is a national, professional, non-profit making Society registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. The major objective of the ISTE is to assist and contribute in the production and development of top quality professional engineers and technicians needed by the industries and other organizations.
Youth Red Cross - The members of the Youth Red Cross are involved in several service activities like, conducting medical awareness camps in rural area in and around our location. Blood donation, helping the traffic police in controlling the traffic in the town, conference on self employment etc. The members are also allowed to attend conference at various places of our country.
NSS - National Service Scheme is involved in the development of personality of students through community service.
Red Ribbon Club - The objective of this scheme is create awareness about AIDS among young generation.
Placement - The Training and Placement Cell is headed by the Placement Officer and assisted by the Placement coordinators from the departments. The Placement Officer is regularly kept in touch with the Corporate to identify their needs and expectations. He also acts as a Liaison Officer between the Companies and Institute. The Cell organises regular training programmes, interaction with leaders from industry and academia and industry interface through industrial visits and projects.
Alumni Association - The Association brings together and facilitate the exchange of information amongst its members and gives opportunities for its members to have a firm link between almamater and its members.
