Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology was founded in 1993. The College is managed by Baba Farid Vidyak Society which was formed under the kind patronage of prominent educationists of Malwa Region of the State of Punjab. Mr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal (Bharat Jyoti Awardee) established the foundation of Baba Farid Institute with the Baba Farid School at Ajit Road, Bathinda. The board of management includes prominent and dedicated educationists, as its worthy members along with notable NRIs from UK, USA and Canada. The College is affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar. Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India, New Delhi. The College conducts courses in the field of engineering, at the undergraduate level. The College has a lush green campus spread over 50 acres. The College offers a host of hi-tech ultra modern facilities to ensure smooth and well planned education for its students.

Location - The Institute is situated 4 kms. away from the municipal limits of Bathinda city on Bathinda-Muktsar road.

Facilities

Hostels - The Institute provides Hostel facility separately for boys and girls housed within the campus. These Hostels are fully equipped with ultra modern amenities for the students.

These amenities include:

• Centrally air-cooled rooms with independent balconies.
• Twenty four hour electricity backup.

• Attached bathrooms with geysers.
• The rooms are of 16X13 dimensions and have a capacity of accommodating two/three students.

• For recreational activities, proper arrangements for newspapers, magazines, T.V, music system have been made in common room .

Library - The College has a fully computerized, centrally air conditioned and well stocked Library, having more than 10,000 books in all relevant subjects. With subscription to National and International Technical Journals, it caters to the varied need of students and staff alike. All transactions of books are done through smart cards. The Library also subscribes to all latest general and informative Current Affairs Magazines.

Computer and Internet Facility - The College has centrally air conditioned ultra modern Computer Laboratory having LCD computers with latest configuration and 24 hours Internet facility of 512 kbps lease line from BSNL Broad Band Connection. It has been set up with the aim to improve the programming skills of student with a clear focus on computer organization.

Insurance - Every student of the Institute is insured under ‘Joint Comprehensive Insurance Scheme’ including the earning member of the family. Students have to pay a very nominal premium for it.

Transport - The Institute provides ample Transport Service to all the adjacent within in and around radius of 50 kms. The Institute is committed to provide its students all the comfort and convenience to help them to achieve their targets. The Institute has a fleet of nearly 50 buses that are running to carry students from as far as Faridkot, Kotkapura, Jaito, Malout, Muktsar, Rampura, Talwandi sabo and Dabwali.

Gymnasium - The Institute has constructed a Multi-Purpose Gymnasium. It channelizes the energy of young ones for productive purposes and assists the students in maintaining their health.

Sports - The College has excellent Sports facilities for all Outdoor and Indoor Games and adequate emphasis is given on all round growth and development of students. The College has Cricket ground, Volley ball and Basket ball Courts made available to students. A modern Gymnasium with sophisticated exercise machines is available in the campus .Multi gym exercises are provided to the students. Students are encouraged to take part in sports activity of their choice and represent the College in different tournaments.

Research & Development Activities - The College has well qualified staff that is constantly upgrading and updating their qualifications. They have also initiated Research activities in different fields of Science and Engineering. The staff is very actively involved in Research Publications with several being published in National and International Journals; they have also presented research papers in various international and national conferences like Material Congress (UK), ISIF Singapore etc. Various research works done by faculty members of BFCET.

Recreation - The Institute has a well maintained cafeteria which is frequently checked by the staff members for the maintenance of proper hygienic conditions. It has ample space for the students and the staff along with the visitors. Comfortable seating arrangement has been made inside the building. A variety of eatables and soft drinks is available at reasonable rates.

Power Backup - The College provides twenty four hour power backup. As college has a 250kVA generator in its campus.

Training and Placement Cell - BFCET has established Training and Placement Cell to groom the students to meet the corporate expectations. The Industry Institute interactions and regular personality development programmes, through industry experts gives the students a cutting edge over others. Extra Curricular Activities - These Activities range from personal hobbies to activities of technical interest. Students are encouraged to become members of these bodies to help broaden their horizons. Student bodies not only help the students to explore their talent but also help in areas such as personality development, improving on their organizational skills and team spirit. Students are encouraged to join ISTE students chapter and regularly attend and organize their various activities.

Some of the Activities:

• NCC - National Cadet Corps is engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The NCC units of the college have been established to develop qualities of character, courage, team spirit, Discipline, Leadership, Secular outlook, Spirit of adventure, Sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens. The Regular parades are conducted at the college on the weekends. During the parades the cadets are given training in drill map reading etc. The classes are conducted on topics like Indian History and Geography, Indian Military history, General knowledge, Leadership and man management. Cadets are also given ranks according to their merit and seniority.

• NSS - National Service Scheme aims at inculcating social consciousness among youth with an overall objective of personality development through community service. NSS volunteers of the College organize Blood Donation Camps, Tree plantations, Cleanliness Drive and Seminars to educate people against social evils like Female Foeticide, dowry , Drug Abuse, AIDS etc.

Achievements

Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology achieved a major landmark in ten day (25th sept.2009 to 4th Oct.2009) NCC camp held at University Neighbourhood  campus, Rampura Phul. In this camp total of 35 students of BFCET participated out of which 8 students were selected as NCC volunteer in Commonwealth Games to be held in Oct. 2010 New Delhi. Students bagged many prizes which included 2nd prize in Drill, 2nd prize in shooting, 1st prize in folk dance and 2nd prize in group dance.
