Pandit  Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences also Pt. B.D. Sharma PGIMS Rohtak is a premier post graduate medical institute located in the city of Rohtak, Haryana. The institute offers various courses in major specialties and super specialties of medicine. The early history the Institute is that it was started under the name of Medical College, Rohtak in 1960. For the first three years, the students were admitted to Government Medical College, Patiala which acted as a host Institution. In 1963, the students were shifted to Rohtak. In the year 1994, Medical College, Rohtak was renamed as Pt. B.D. Sharma, Medical College, Rohtak. And subsequently, it was upgraded to a Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in the year 1995.

Location - Pt. B.D. Sharma, PGIMS, Rohtak is situated at a distance of about 240 km from Chandigarh and about 70 km from Delhi on Delhi-Hissar-Sirsa-Fazilka National Highway (NH-10).

Library Facilities - The Institute library provides a huge collection of 42621 books on various streams of Medical Science and it subscribed almost 150 national and international medical journals. There is Internet connectivity available in the library both for staff and students of the Institute.

OPDs Facilities - The Institute has OPD clinics in all the specialties running on all working days. All the OPD clinics are situated in one building which has been further divided into various blocks for the convenience of the visiting patients.

Indoor Wards Facilities - The PGIMS, Rohtak has 1719 beds in its 26 wards providing adequate and satisfactory indoor care to patients admitted to the Institute with various ailments.

Diagnostic Services - The Institute has best diagnostic facilities available. Departments of Biochemistry, Pathology including Clinical Pathology and Haematology, Microbiology and Radiology are offering the following quality diagnostic / investigative services to aid in the proper diagnosis and treatment of the patients.

Accident and Emergency Department - The PGIMS has a 72 bedded Accident and Emergency Department with divisions catering to medical, paediatric, surgical and Orthopaedics emergencies functioning round the clock. This department also has an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  Facilities of X-ray, Ultrasound and all Laboratory tests are available in the same premises.

Blood Bank - The Institute has a blood bank, well equipped with blood testing facilities, latest gadgetry and a cold room for good storage capacity. It provides safe and tested whole blood for transfusion to patients.

Regional Cancer Centre - There is running a Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in the Institute, under the Department of Onco-surgery.

Intensive Care Units - The Institute has the following well-equipped Intensive Care Units (ICUs) for providing intensive care to the patients.

• Intensive Care Unit working under the Department of Medicine
• Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) working under the Department of Cardio-thoracic Surgery
• Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) working under the Department of Anesthesiology

Super-specialty Centre - The PGIMS, Rohtak has Lala Sham Lal Super-Specialty Centre and it is housed in a separate newly constructed and spacious building with all the modern facilities for treatment, teaching and research. The Cardiology, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Nephrology and Neuro-Surgery departments have already been shifted to this new building.

Drug De-addiction and Treatment Centre - The Institute has Drug de-addiction and treatment centre which has well functioning outpatient, inpatient, and outreach components.

Biotechnology Facilities - The Institute provides biotechnology facilities in Diagnostics for its patients. Following Biotech labs are under construction and the services are expected to be operational soon.
